Will the relief at relieving one's bladder - or bowels - always be greater than the discomfort experienced from having to retain the motion for an extended time?

True, that was kind of the other part of the question - will the sense of relief always be inversely proportional to the time you hold it in... like the longer the discomfort is endured, the greater the relief - or is there a 'tipping point' or 'sweet spot', ie the longer it is held does not equate to greater relief.

Actually, I should've searched google scholar first. I'm sure someone's done a PhD on this.

Trying having an ultrasound where they have you drink a quart or so of water an hour before and you have to hold it till they do the test and they're pressing on your lower belly the entire time. Talk about agony. Believe me, peeing never felt so good.

D.H. Lawrence wrote a whole series of essays explaining why onanism was spiritually self-destructive. The book is titled Sex, Literature & Censorship.

Philips TV and Ridley Scott sponsored a cool short film contest a few years back and this was the outstanding entry.
The filmmakers could create any story they wanted as long as it contained these lines of dialogue:

"What is that?"
"It's a unicorn."
"Never seen one up close before."
"Beautiful."
"Get away, get away." "
"I'm sorry."
