This thing started September 15, 2008. It's March 2009 and this is starting to feel like a Les Walker to me. I don't want to get into another situation where I have to wait a year to get an item(s) I paid for. How are you handling distribution? First paid, first shipped? You are not waiting for all the heads to be done before starting to ship are you?

Let me tell you that September to March is nothing in the world of customs. This guy has approximately 1,528 projects on the go (ok maybe not that many lol) and is doing lots of great work that a ton of people are beneffiting from.

If you're not prepared to wait for a custom I'd suggest you only buy your figures from shop shelves where you can pick them up in hand. With customs there more often than not will be a wait. That's just the way it is, the people doing customs aren't factories, nor do they have to do this for people. We should consider ourselves lucky there's people like Chris out here doing such amazing stuff.

A little patience goes a long way when we're being offered work of such high quality as this :)

Also... "starting to feel like a Les Walker...". Really? That's the most respectful way you could phrase it? Nice.

I do not care about his other projects. I didn't sign up for them. Nor should his work schedule be my concern.

It isn't respectful, but it is accurate.

One thing I really like about dealing with Chris is that he offers you a discount for the advance order, but you can always choose to wait until it's done and pay the other price.

I agree that is a good point. I guess my standards are pretty high, my patience is pretty low, and I am not used to waiting long periods of time. I doubt very much I will reach out for a custom anything in the future.

This whole hobby requires a lot of patience. The stormtrooper for example went up for pre order in July and just shipped.
As an artist myself, I can't imagine how these guys perform on demand. If I'm not in the mood to do it, the piece reflects it clearly.
We just need the clarification that when you commission an artist, you will have a considerable wait, but when comparing it to a factory paint job it will be worth it.

So what timeframe did you agree with Chris prior to ordering out of interest ?

I don't like the wait either. I have 4 customs I'm having Chris do. But I agree about the quality. I would hate to see him and other artist stop doing customs like these because of too many hassles. I don't mind the wait as long as we have updates as to what is going on. Pics are nice too :D All in all I think if you go in knowing you are going to have to wait for them then you won't get frustrated.

My small way of impacting the wait time on these is I absolutely refuse to commission more than 1 item from a certain person at a time.

It just creates more problems for ourselves. Frankly, its the collectors enticing Chris to work on 50 items at once that are the source of the problem. Somewhere there is actually a thread trying to commission Chris on 2 new Firefly sculpts. Why not wait till he finishes the River for crying out loud? All you're doing is backing up the current WIPs.

As soon as the River moves to Kuato for painting I'll be more than happy to sign up for the Mal sculpt, but not a minute before.

this is why I haven't gotten the stuff I need for this custom because I know that I can get other stuff in the mean time. And once I know my heads on it's way then I worry bout getting the clothes and body and stuff.

I do want to say that I haven't felt this wait to be extraordinarily long yet compared to a few others I've seen.
