The title of your thread and the Huff Po article is not exactly accurate. The Court ruled that the state must reduce prison overcrowding. That can be accomplished through many means, such as transferring prisoners, building new facilities, etc. I understand that the ruling itself specifically notes that the state may pursue these remedies rather than a mass release of prisoners.

Any prisoners that would be released would be 3 strike Lifers sitting in prison for "felony" crimes that consist of like stealing cars and other small time stuff i.e. those people are not a menace to society. Like rapists, murderers, pedophiles, etc.

Those non-violent 3 strike lifers need to be released anyway. The three strikes law is just ill conceived.

I bet Charlie knows :lecture

building new facilites with what money? If they had the money to do it, don't you think it should have been done years ago? The over crowding thing is not a new topic for this state. If you have more accurate articles, please share. Do we really know for sure that pedophiles and murderers and such are not being released?

If they need to make more prison room, why don't they release all the prisoners in southern prisons that are in there for decades just for smoking pot or growing their own?

If any "murderers" get released it will be people who are doing time for voluntary/involuntary manslaughter. And that's iffy since they can easily free up space (and money) by releasing non-violent criminals instead.
