**No spoilers**

Well, I saw it. And I loved it. Quality-wise probably a 7/10 or so. About a second tier MCU film, like Captain America: The First Avenger or Thor 1.

But for me it hit the right notes. I even teared up. Twice. No joke. This movie has some real sentimentality to it regarding Pops and Sarah and a thinly veiled commentary on Arnold being an "obsolete" action hero from a "timeline that no longer exists." It was tough to see him playing that when it obviously parallels his own persona. Raptors never age, and superheroes will always be rebooted with "younger models" but for a lifelong Arnold fan I couldn't help but root for him.

Let me say this, there ARE still some genuine surprises with regard to the story. Well I stopped watching clips and TV spots about a month ago so I guess more things could have been spoiled but I was happy to be surprised by a twist or two that I hadn't seen in the trailers.

Evil John was cool, but again, he felt more like an MCU villain. Not on the level of 84 Arnold or the T-1000 but he can certainly hang with Ultron.

The future prologue was AWESOME. I feel like I actually got to see that unfilmed T2 prologue where they storm the compound, find the time displacement equipment, and, well you know the rest. And that photobombing idiot from Entertainment Weekly definitely got an upgrade because I thought the finished Endos were bad ass.

Courtney was okay, definitely a different Reese. Almost more of a John McClane Reese with his attitude and one-liners.

But Clarke. She was a freaking angel. Seriously, I just pretty much wanted to jump into the movie and rescue her the whole time. Give me a whole trilogy about her and Pops. She's the "Tom Hardy" of Sarah Connors. So while Reese was a step down I would say she was a step up from Hamilton for me.

The contemporary vehicle action was cool but didn't really take anything "up a notch." The vehicle action was below T2. Well I guess the helicopter chase would have been as good as T2 action if they had used real helicopters. But CG choppers don't really "count" IMO. There was however, an awesome homage to "Commando" that I won't spoil. :D

Where the action shines is at the beginning in the future and Pops' final duel against Endo John. THAT was awesome and was one kickass visual after another.

So to summarize, I really liked it. A bit below T1 and T2 but far about T3 and TS, just like others have said.

1. Future war was spectacular
2. Clark Sarah was freaking adorable every second she was on screen
3. I liked the chemistry between Pops, Sarah, and Reese
4. Some good, unspoiled twists
5. Timeline hopping was fun
6. Final duel was really cool

I'm really into where they're going with this story and will be quite upset if this is another "one and one" trilogy starter.

I believe you not, Khev.

Too much adoration for the past in your review. I do not adore Terminator the way you do... so maybe my expectations are even lower.

This will disappoint me if it is good. :lol

Can it be that some enjoyment can be extracted from this, even if ultimately I doubt I'll be counting it as canon. Then again T3 was enjoyable on first viewing, now, rather less so to me.

Wow, that's a pretty glowing endorsement there Khev. The 'obsolete action hero' parallels sound interesting if nothing else.

Like a lot of others here, I've watched most of the spots etc, so I don't know how much I've got to look forward to really. :lol

Hard to say. It definitely had flaws that I simply chose to forgive because of the elements that I enjoyed. Will you guys be as forgiving? Probably not. :lol There's some really cool things I thought they did with timelines that I'll just wait until you see it to discuss rather than doing spoiler tags that will just get buried in this thread.

One really cool aspect of Reese and Sarah's arcs that I will go ahead and use tags for:

Both of them being saved from a Terminator when they were young. Sarah being saved by Pops and Reese by John. I found it to be a very believable setting up of the "hero worship" he had for John as he grew up. Of course young Reese encountering a Terminator in the sewers doesn't sync up perfectly with his speech about the "infiltrators" being new but still, for the context of this movie it was a really cool parallel dynamic.

Saw this movie tonight, and the funny thing is: I was expecting a trainwreck. Never got one. First half takes place in 1984, and for me, the movie was magic - way way better than T3. And for part of that reason, it was the super cool t1000 and the 'pops' version Ahnuld. Even the Reese dude was 'ok' for me. Mild spoilers now, but when the movie moves past this 1984 part, it started to have some problems. Mostly due to the fact that T-John isn't scary, or anything. He's the next step past the T1000. He's a terminator with the gift of gab, and that is just plain wrong, but that is more of a subjective thing on my part. Had he been quiet and menacing, I would have been more into that aspect.

So bottom line, way better than Salvation and for my money, T3. Partly since this movie has no godawful lines, like, 'talk to da hand...'

Will see this one more time. And I almost never see movies twice anymore. If you go in expecting to hate it, you probably will. If you want to see Ahnuld back in a version of his character much more reminiscent of his T2 one, then go see it!!!!!

Rating of PG-13 total non issue. Was pretty intense throughout

And I will say this: The trailers completely ****ed up the parking garage scene. The movie literally set up that:

Pops might be a "deep infiltrator" with buried directives and Reese kept trying to tell Sarah that you can never truly trust the programming of a Terminator and then BAM he sees John and blows him away. Reese and Sarah both freak out thinking that Pops really was evil and then of course we learn that John was a machine.

SO stupid to put that in the trailer.

I'm going to agree with that even without having seen it. As if it wasn't enough that Arnie's Terminator has become more and more chatty over the course of the movies but now even the villain Terminator can't keep his mouth shut. It just doesn't feel right.

No, totally, but it does fit the story. T-John is a true Terminator in the sense he can perfectly mimic humans now, but I was still like, 'shut this chatty motherchatter down!!!!'

Hey Khev, was the T-G CG Arnold better looking than the T-5 one?

Oh absolutely. And both he and Pops had gorier battle damage than what was in the trailers. But CG Arnold was never 100% convincing. Oh and they did NOT reveal him to be a "Ken doll." They have their battle and his private parts are always strategically in shadow. Also Pops speaks to him right as he's about to kill the first punk so him talking at that moment isn't so "stupid."
