And I will say this: The trailers completely ****ed up the parking garage scene. The movie literally set up that:

Pops might be a "deep infiltrator" with buried directives and Reese kept trying to tell Sarah that you can never truly trust the programming of a Terminator and then BAM he sees John and blows him away. Reese and Sarah both freak out thinking that Pops really was evil and then of course we learn that John was a machine.

SO stupid to put that in the trailer.

I was genuinely pissed the way the parking garage scene played out knowing how much cooler it would have been if the trailers hadn't spoiled it. That was a defining moment for John AND Pops.

I wonder how much it will hurt them to ruin the movie like that.

Seriously the reveal of Evil John could have saved the movie with critics and fans (being such a big surprise like that) They had maybe one of the biggest surprises planned and they shoot themselves in the foot like that....
Specially the way you mention it, it makes ME curious to see it now. Im curious to watch this now. but knowing the surprises.... seriously what.. where these people thinking

No. But it was a better Terminator movie than Jurassic World. :)

Aw ****, I hated Jurassic World. :lol

Yeah, same. Well, I will change my boardname to 'e-dev' if, after a few viewings, I actually like this movie.

Did you come up with "Evil John"? I'm pretty sure you did but I want to give credit where it's due. :lol

It was fun to see how JK Simmons and Matt Smith's characters factored into the story. So the trailers didn't spoil EVERYTHING. Just what would have been one of the biggest moments of the film.

Aw ****, I hated Jurassic World. :lol

As did a-dev so definitely take my review with a grain of salt. :lol

I think if you end up genuinely liking the Pops and Sarah characters and can tolerate Reese then they'll carry the movie for you when it lulls a bit between the great beginning and end. It opened with a bang, ended on a high note and had characters I liked. Hard to fault a movie that does all that.

But I'm trying to keep my rating at a 7/10 so as not to oversell it. Like I said, a lot of you might not forgive its shortcomings, and it does have them.

They probably wanted to get people interested in the film. It's the fourth film that involves time travel, so having the John as the villain is something different.

...But Clarke. She was a freaking angel. Seriously, I just pretty much wanted to jump into the movie and rescue her the whole time... So while Reese was a step down I would say she was a step up from Hamilton for me...

2. Clark Sarah was freaking adorable every second she was on screen...
This is not computing for me. Yeah, she's hotter than Linda Hamilton but I don't think she's anywhere near as believable a soldier as Hamilton was in T2. Should Sarah Conner be "adorable" and someone you want to jump in and rescue every second she's on screen? Ugh, Khev! Making me a bit sick with this adoration! :lol

Still, kind of glad to read that people seem to generally have a good impression of the film. Still doubt I'll take the time to see it in theatres but it's a definite VOD purchase in September or October!

Ha ha well I didn't say she'd "need" me to rescue her I just wanted to. :lol

And no she wasn't hardcore T2 Hamilton Sarah. She was a still a mouthy 21 or 22 year old or whatever age she was supposed to be so it was kind of cool to see her combine elements of T1 and T2 Sarah.

One of the reasons why I disliked JW so much was because it felt fraudulent, like it tried to exist in the same world of the first JP but couldn't convincingly pull it off. I have a bad feeling I'll feel the same way about this.

Saw this movie tonight, and the funny thing is: I was expecting a trainwreck. Never got one. First half takes place in 1984, and for me, the movie was magic - way way better than T3. And for part of that reason, it was the super cool t1000 and the 'pops' version Ahnuld. Even the Reese dude was 'ok' for me. Mild spoilers now, but when the movie moves past this 1984 part, it started to have some problems. Mostly due to the fact that T-John isn't scary, or anything. He's the next step past the T1000. He's a terminator with the gift of gab, and that is just plain wrong, but that is more of a subjective thing on my part. Had he been quiet and menacing, I would have been more into that aspect.

So bottom line, way better than Salvation and for my money, T3. Partly since this movie has no godawful lines, like, 'talk to da hand...'

Will see this one more time. And I almost never see movies twice anymore. If you go in expecting to hate it, you probably will. If you want to see Ahnuld back in a version of his character much more reminiscent of his T2 one, then go see it!!!!!

Rating of PG-13 total non issue. Was pretty intense throughout

Good god.... can it be true? Two good reviews tonight.

6/10 for me.

Better than salvation and T3. "Reese", the new terminator and trying to stop judgment day AGAIN ruined for me. The funny bits are better than the ones in T3, not that cheese.

"Reese" behaves like a little girl and there's nothing memorable in his actions.

The time travel stuff is stupid. Can't believe they are thinking to do a trilogy out of this thing.

T1000, Arnold and the 1984 parts were great.

Oh and just a heads up to anyone who has watched those "clips" of Pops engaging naked Arnold in front of the punks and Sarah rescuing Reese in the department store. I just watched those for the first time and they aren't actually correct sequences as to how things play out in the finished movie. They still edited out some parts. The punks were about to fight the T-800 before Pops interrupted him. Sarah doesn't actually shoot out the T-1000's eye which every trailer and clip so far has led to believe.
