A loser capitalizing off of the work/name of his dead friend after his solo career bombed? Not surprised he enjoys the suck. When Staley died, so did everything relevant about Cantrell. :lecture:lecture:lecture
Right.. :lol

Cantrell's first solo album was great. I haven't really kept up with AIC much in recent times, but they still have a huge following - & really, they could've kept on with him as front person without having to get another guy in, because not only did JC sing lead on a lot of their stuff, but they released singles with him fronting on more than a few occasions as well.

They definitely were at their best when they were together. Too bad Staley wasn't sober enough to help put out more great music in the '90s.

You've heard Mad Season, right?

Right.. :lol

There's no denying his contribution to AiC and he did do most of the lead vocals on the self-titled. It's moreso the berating of Staley when he died, and distancing himself with his solo career. Saw him with Metallica and the dude was an ******* to the crowd talking **** to people requesting AiC songs. Then, once his solo career bombed, he ran back to Staley's corpse to milk the dead teets with a few more "Best of" albums before rebooting the band with another singer - which, despite being shameless, isn't the same. He should've just made another band vs. *******izing what should've been a good legacy for him.

Yeah well, I guess in that context - that's pretty ****ed.

Incidentally, I recently did some reading online about the band's history & what not, & it all seemed (it was implied at least) that while everyone started drifting apart towards the end - & there was of course frustration due to Staley's crippling addiction & downward spiral, they all still loved him as a brother. It was Staley who pushed everyone away in the end.. & I think it was Mike Starr (original Bass player) who was the last guy to talk to him before he was found dead in his apartment - & when they finally discovered him, he'd been like that for days.

Mad Season was an excellent collaboration btw.. as was Temple Of The Dog. Lots of great merging line ups from the Seattle scene like that, back in the day.

What year did you see Metallica & Cantrell?

I don't care for Mad Season. I definitely think AIC played to the strengths of both of those guys, in the way that Lennon and McCartney worked best together--the musical compromise and conflict between their different approaches made something really special. Love Temple of the Dog, though.

Sounds like a WWE audience. Yeah, I saw Cantrell talking about it on a VH1 series of mini documentaries on heavy metal. Cantrell was saying all these nice things about them, going on stage to play with them, etc. Needless to say, I didn't sleep well that night after watching it.

yeah, it was VH1's Metal Evolution...I LOVED that show. Really amazing look at the different styles of metal.

This is the episode you were talking about I believe, (How Grunge evolved from bands like Alice in Chains.....to Nickelback and Creed :lol)

now to be fair At least VH1 has music from time to time, (Like That Metal Show) compared to MTV which has become RTV (reality television)

After jersey shore I don't even wanna know what's on mtv now. Probably 16 and flaunting that your stupidity and more of snooki.

Spider-Man is a great character. I love him. I love his supporting cast. But can he and his small world meet an entire studio's tentpole needs? Can the Spiderverse become the annual backbone of Sony's slate? Probably not, but that won't stop them from trying.

According to Variety the studio plans to begin releasing a Spider-Man universe movie every single year, probably beginning in 2016 with The Amazing Spider-Man 3. The other films in the series will be Venom and The Sinister Six, which had already been announced but which weren't clearly parts of a cornerstone plan for the studio. The way that Amy Pascal, so-chair of Sony Pictures Entertainment, puts it, Spidey is their man. “We are expanding the ‘Spider-Man’ universe into ‘The Sinister Six’ and ‘Venom,’ so that we have ‘Spider-Man’ movies every year,” Pascal says.

But does that make sense? Not according to media analyst Harold Vogel, whose quote leads off the Variety piece: “It’s creative entropy, and I think there’s been too much of a reliance on ‘Spider-Man,’ ” he says. “They need some other things to build out.”

This feels like a poorly thought out reaction to Marvel's success. What Sony doesn't seem to understand is that the Marvel movies each feel different, that they each take place in slightly separated universes that allow for different audiences. The fantasy of Thor isn't your thing? Check out the scifi of iron Man. Want something more down-to-earth? Here's the Captain America series. Want huge spectacle? The Avengers has you covered. Looking for fun action? Guardians of the Galaxy hits this summer. Marvel, while making comic book movies, has created a diversity in their product. Sinister Six and especially Venom are just riffs on the Spider-Man movies - at least that's what they would seem to be, based on their comic pedigrees.

A Spider-Man "universe" movie a year - especially with two-thirds of them being villain movies - feels like a quick way to burn out a cash cow. And honestly, Spider-Man doesn't have a universe. He has a city.

Meanwhile, the Variety article confirms that Marc Webb is back for The Amazing Spider-Man 3; I assume he's coming back for 4 as well, since he says he sees The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as beginning a new trilogy.

In 10 years we're all probably going to be exhausted from superhero movies. Having 3-5 superhero movies a year for so long is going to cause a lot of hatred for the genre.

Best news I've heard all day.

Webb is coming back.

And Sony has no plans on letting go of Spider-Man any time soon.

Great day to be a Spider-Man fan. And Andrew agrees....

Yeah, people are already talking about "blockbuster fatigue", and it's beginning to show, my gf for example is fed up with big hollywood blockbusters for the time being, she doesn't even want to see Robocop :lol

I can see that happening with Superhero movies not too long from now.

If they do a good job with this one and they continue to do so, I'll probably won't mind so much, but who wouldn't want to see the X-men, Avengers, FF and Spiderman all interact with each other?

I'm not sold on Webb yet. I didn't think TASM was bad, but it could have been a lot better. Now that Webb is no longer shackled to telling an origin story, this will prove whether he can make a great Spiderman film or not. Everything I'm seeing with TASM2 leads me to believe he will be able to.
