'the studio has now revealed that screenwriting duo Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen) have been brought in to give it a rewrite'

:slap:slap:slap:slap

You can't blame them for the script. They had so little time to write anything because of the strike.

Blame the studio for wanting to make the movie right away, and rushing it, creating the biggest turd of all time.

You could blame Bay too. But leave the writers out of it! LEAVE THEM ALONE! :monkey2

Sequel.

They also wrote Star Trek, which was quite good.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

From Bad Ass Digest:

I'm back from Vegas! All that travel means I'm a bit behind on some news, so while this happened yesterday I wanted to bring it up today...

Sony is looking at The Amazing Spider-Man as an investment. I've heard some really mixed things about the movie - much of which originates from INSIDE Sony - but no matter how the film does (unless the film is an unmitigated disaster, and that won't happen with a property like this), they're coming back for a sequel. Sony is so sure of the sequel that they've hired Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman to write it.

Note that hiring writers to work on sequels before a movie is released is common, and not always a guarantee of that sequel going anywhere. But Kurtzman and Orci are Big Deal Writers, since their movies - despite rarely being any good - have made a lot of money. I imagine their quote is pretty high, so Sony went ahead and dumped a bunch of cash on Spider-Man 2 because they fully intend to get that movie made. And they're hiring Orci and Kurtzman because they want Spider-Man 2 to be as straight down the center as possible - you're not hiring these guys to bring you _a nuanced look at anything.

We'll see if The Amazing Spider-Man is as troubled as I've heard (the stories that come to me are that the execs hate it, and you can never tell when the execs are right or when they're stupid, stupid suits). This hiring could be the sign of a major change in direction for the franchise. If you follow Orci's twitter you'll wonder if Spidey will finally investigate 9/11 as an inside job.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Sounds like poop.

We'll see what happens but I bet Sony wishes they would have just gone with Spider-Man 4 instead.

Fun fact, originally 2004's Spider-Man 2 was going to be titled "The Amazing Spider-Man".

It does sound like poop, the only question is, who's poop will prove to be stinkier, Tobey's or this kid's :slap

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Might not have anything to do with Garfield though. The "untold story" might just be crap and should have remained untold. Wouldn't be his fault. Well, I don't know. He does appear to be extremely hipster. Parker shouldn't be emo and he definitely shouldn't be a hipster.

I'll still see this, good or bad, but I'm not excited like I was from 2004 to 2007 between Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3. It doesn't even feel like a Spider-Man movie year to me (because it's a Batman one, tee hee hee).

Well yeah it won't be his fault, but he will take the fall for it if its a stinker :lol

Man, I still can't believe how crap Spiderman 3 was... Spiderman 1 was meh ok, kinda cool, great to see Spidey on the big screen. Spiderman 2 - ok, this is GOOD. Spiderman 3...trailer promised much... movie was as big a fail as Batman and Robin.

Agreed although I enjoyed S1 much more than you did.

Parts of 1 are better than 2 actually.

But both are good, I laugh when I hear people now talking about how much S1-S2 sucked.

Spider-Man 1 was a great beginning. Nothing super extraordinary but a good start to a promising future as far as sequels go. I still love the last act at Norman Osborn's funeral and the final swing.

Spider-Man 2 took everything that was off about the first and improved upon it. Everything about it was solid. From the villain to the problems Peter faced. It was sort of a depressing film but you really felt sorry for Spider-Man.

Spider-Man 3 was just a huge let down. Like Void said, those trailers were SO fantastic, maybe some of the best trailers for a film, and the marketing and promoting held so much promise. Then, BAM, the rug was pulled out from under you. Why they decided to go into the direction they went in baffles me. Especially after Spider-Man 2's ending.

Except for the villain. Whereas the Green Goblin in 1 didn't look great, his personality was straight off the comic page. In 2, Doc Ock looked fantastic but personality was waaaaaay off from the comics.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Yeah, Doc Ock wasn't accurate to the character from the comics, per se, but I still thought he was good. I liked how sympathetic they made him and I also liked the "tentacles are controlling his mind" angle. They gave him some humanity instead of being a nut job like Norman. Of course, they went over board with that in Spider-Man 3 making every villain a whiny _____. It was fresh with Octavius though.

I dug it.

I thought the sun thing was stupid though. Thankfully the characterization and Peter Parker's story and problems made up for that.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Not too excited about going through the origin again. But, at least they're doing it RIGHT this time (IMO)

The Amazing Spider-Man (July 3) They clearly saved the most anticipated movie for last, and though we'd already seen a bunch of the footage shown at the big "Untold Story Begins" event a few months back, there was certainly some new stuff in there, maybe even some that will make it to the new trailer next week.
It opened with a shot of Spider-Man with his mask off looking down over the city with the voice-over saying that it's not an easy job and that he's made enemies as he's put the lives of his loved ones in danger, but the one thing he wants to find out is the truth about his parents. We see brief images like him being chased by the Lizard and burning cars hanging from the Brooklyn Bridge during this narration.
From there, we saw a lot of stuff and a few new things included a brief glimpse of Peter working on his webshooter and webbing exploded in his face, as well as Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker using his skateboard to get around some cars. A couple other new things included a shot of Rhys Ifans' Dr. Curt Connors first jacking up with the experiment that will help him grow his missing arm back, while also turning him into the Lizard. We also saw a lot more of Spider-Man's battle with the Lizard on the rooftops of New York, although it was cut up in a way that meant we only saw very quick and brief shots of the Lizard or various appendages.
We have to say that this footage really makes The Amazing Spider-Man look very much like what Chris Nolan did with Batman in Batman Begins and we honestly don't think that's a bad thing at all, especially if it maintains some of Spider-Man's snappy humor amidst the angst, which it does seem to have. Our hopes is that this movie is more of the Romita-era Spider-Man to Sam Raimi's Steve Ditko.
