people knew who iron man was just no one cared he has some of the worst villains ever the comic book version isn't all that great hes pretty boring RDJ makes him likable spidey will make alot of money cause its spiderman people can relate to him better.

I really think this one may give Dark Knight a run for its money; DK is gonna do BANK for its first weekend, but if Bane and Cataway dont live up to the hype, it'll drop pretty fast

In fact Spider-man subsidises many of the other Marvel characters who don't sell anywhere near the number of comics as his titles and that includes Ironman. Much like Batman with DC.

Which is why spiderman is one of the most iconic heros of all time. I loved ironman but the only reason why people loved that movie so was becuase it opened the door to the crossover universe. Iron man should be kissing spideys feet in that pic. The first spidey movie was such a sucess when it came out that it started the superhero summer trend. Ever since spidey we havent gone through one summer without a superhero movie. I know batman and xmen were first but spidey movie was huge at that time. I remember being so excited seeing him swing around the city .

Ironman was a big success because of RDJ. He was just so perfect for the role. The supporting cast was also good. Out of all of the castings of main superheroes apart from Chris Reeves no one has been "perfect" for the role.

Glad to see this aded in. I think people forget or just aren't old enough to remember how huge Sperman was when it came out, and alot of it was due to the perfect casting of Superman.

RDJ success and fanlove is also a curse though, he'll give it up soon enough and they'll reboot it to make money with someone else, and since RDJ is THE Tony Stark the new actor won't be as right for the part.

It may happen with Jackman/Wolverine too.
