Well, what does ol' Took know......:lol

Do you guys think pics of the Weta version will become available prior to release?? I am pretty sure I will only be getting one version, and I cant imagine a more classic, iconic version than Howe Smaug slumbering on dwarven gold.

Hard to say. Seeing as Smaug will be the "flagship" piece of the Weta line I imagine they will keep any pic's "close to the vest" and I don't see any images popping up until just prior to it being available for pre-order. Personally, I will be getting both the Howe version and the Weta movie-related version, but if I could only have one I would wait for the Weta Smaug. Simply because I prefer colour statues to FB, and because I have always preferred Weta's vision of middle-earth related creatures more than Howe's.

Hey Woodsy,

Thanks for the input.

Obviously youre in the game heavier than I am.......Do you have a specific reference that you can share? So that I may look upon them, with my OWN eyes.......(oops - wrong movie!)

John Howe's Fell Beast design is pretty much what we got in Lord of the Rings so there's a chance Smaug could be very similar.

I'm personally not expecting the film Smaug to be all that different, other then yes, some of the mouth/face for reasons of animation and lip-sync.

And then, even if it is made (which is not set in stone, so to speak), I'd doubt it would be a repeat pose, ie, on stack of gold, even if it is, I doubt it will be as large as the FB one and even if it is, I doubt it will be as small an ES.

Add to that, it won't be the classic book cover, it won't have a wood base and it won't come with a hard cover 'making' book. So all in all, it just screams grail, but I guess time will tell.
BTW, the FB is polystone, even tho it says 'resin' on the website, I asked.

Thanks Guru!

I hope youre right and they dont do the same pose, painted. Like the SS Eagle vs Fell. That would just be whoring it out at that point.

I agree - I think this WILL be a grail. Its a timeless classic, and when the marketing picks up as the movie gets closer, and the fever starts to build, alot of people will be scampering for it methinks. I wish I could get 2 :)monkey3), but that aint happening. So, I cant wait for 1!
