Yep, same... although I had been a lurker for some time over here and at Rebelscum... but for some reason my computer wouldn't let me join up at Rebelscum so I joined here instead. Rest is literally history.

But it never occurred to me to pull a Cunningham and just grab it and run, lol.

Headline: Boba Fett robbed of Boba Fett!!!

Yep I was a lurker at rebelscum too until someone posted the SSC Luke (which blew my mind, especially since at the time I had no idea that the production version would be so far below the prototype) and like you said the rest is history.

So crazy that neither of my kids were even born at that time and now here we are with my oldest heading for high school in the fall. :google

Still, bobblehead Luke had the best paintjob of all the Sideshow Star Wars figures to come. That $49.99 figure was a loss-leader for Sideshow for sure. Didn't the next figure jump to $54.99...? I don't think Sideshow made more than 1 or 2 at the promoted $50 price.

And now here we are... many considering a $500 Mando on Blurrg. :lol

Yeah which is hilarious considering there was that first General Grievous speculation thread where someone said that they didn't think that Grievous would ever get made because if he did he "might cost as much as $100." :lol

But the stress over the preorder sellouts was fun, people celebrating and cursing after the exclusives got snatched up, lol.

Yeah, those Fridays at 10am PST were exciting and nerve-racking.

Ben Kenobi crashed the site, remember? :lol

I still have most of those early Sideshow figures hidden away in shame in the garage. I wonder if they will ever be worth anything now with Hot Toys? Not sure they will ever have their moment of nostalgia like Kenner toys did.

No kidding. :lol

What brought you guys to the site? For me it was the SSC Jedi Luke reveal.

It was the 2008 joker bank robbery version . People swapped out the head and put it on the regular hot toys joker. Man time flies doesn?t it? I was a kid. 17 yrs old. Joker was all the rage and hot toys made toys of every movie that came out. Seriously. Nothing was off the table .

I was there for the rise of the mcu and the announcement of batfleck. People hated him !

I remember I use to argue with thenamagaizine and Celtic pred. I hope they are doing well.

I remember when that one did flipped out about how he hates collecting and he didn?t feel like a man when he gave his wife **** and saw his Spider-Man toys.

I also remember a dude posting **** so he could get banned .

Last but not least I remember the mods here. Use to be a lot but now there is like .... one? And I barely see him. I?m grown now and things changed but I can?t believe how time flies and how ma y times I came back here to talk about the same things with you all. I enjoyed it

I became aware of Hot Toys early works on Terminator, Predator, Aliens and Robocop through the Spawn forums and I guess I must have followed links from there to here. Then TDK hit and I impulse-bought those - so TDK didn't bring me to this forum as such but I definitely got in on the hype.

I've enjoyed this forum. Pity it's become a dumping ground for shameless spammers cluttering the hell out of it with complete trash.

Great posts everyone especially the Sansweet Fett Celebration jokes lol

How about this question….

What keeps the ones who stayed here.

What motivates us to return.

We don’t know each other we can always just walk away for good yet we don’t.

Why dammit why do we return I gots to know lol

Did they get banned for posting stuff in the custom section?. Most all old timers left because they were banned not necessarily by choice but for breaking new rules or they got out of control. I remember both evilface and irishjedi they were both big time posters here when i first joined many years ago, but im pretty sure both got banned. There was another dude who always posted in the movie thread section whose name is escaping me right now but he got banned too. Jye should know his name he used to quote him alot - but this was years ago

SSC was being influenced by the actual Sideshow to change the site and get rid of all unlicensed products.

People didn?t like that.

That?s the reason. It was not because of anything else really .

I think I started lurking because of POTC Depp.

I was fully onboard by Battle Damaged Terminator ....

Thankless job on a desolate, post-apocalyptic forum. :lol

I started lurking here in late 2011 before joining in early 2013 - back then I was obsessed with customizing Marmit stormtroopers and didn't really collect much. As Hot Toys ramped up their quality I got into it for ... I guess it's been a decade of active collecting? But these days it feels like I'm kind of done, not just with collecting but with active engagement with geekdom -- it was something I sort of re-discovered as that kind of content surged in popular culture and it's been a blast arguing and ranting about films and characters and designs ... but the smell of fresh plastic and the flicker of CGI grows fainter every day ... I feel like it's all been said and bought and sold ... I don't know how much longer I'll be in the fray. No one ever leaves *completely* (we like what we like) but priorities change ...

I've enjoyed this forum. Pity it's become a dumping ground for shameless spammers cluttering the hell out of it with complete trash.

Me too, but this may be Twilight of the Geeks.

Ranting about genre stuff has been a pastime of mine in real life with a couple of geek friends, and I guess it carried over here. I know my usage of this forum spiked massively with lock-down measures during The Plague.

But I am beginning to feel that Disney and company have milked it all to death and there's nowhere left to go...and with time other interests begin to take over.

No kidding. :lol

I think it was also the SSC Jedi Luke, although I can't be sure. I did lurk at the Rebelscum forums a lot though, but I had been collecting since 2000, mostly WWII figures. I think Medicom's Luke and Vader came before SSC's Luke though, right? Wasn't that also around the time HT came out with their Apone and Hicks figures? The ones you still had to put together? I think I got those for 75 each...

I remember those Fridays counting the seconds till the top of the hour to get my order in on SS. I've sold them all, but Obi-Wan, Anakin DS Ex, Mace, Qui-Gon and the LOTR Legolas, Aragorn (my fav) and Boromir. Jerks never made my Gimli! I remember the Anakin DS and Boromir seemed to generate a lot more interest at the time than the others. There was certainly some excitement in those times. Has come back a little seeing some figs go to Waitlist before they even get in stock at SS.

The PO’s were awful. Especially the PPO site crashes

I'm still in this hobby and as long as I am I'm going to want to talk about it with others who are. I like people here, we have good bants. I'll never meet any of you in real life but I am confident you are nevertheless real people. And having been here 13 years it would seem a shame to suddenly drop all contact - if I ever do that it probably means I died. :lol

I've actually pretty much stopped collecting (only getting a few NECA figures), but I've kept some of my favourites and like living vicariously through you guys! :rotfl
Besides, I like the movie discussions and the banter. You guys are a fun a bunch to hang around with. :duff
