I sit about 12-14 feet from my 70". I'd like to get an 80", but I'm not upgrading any time soon. Tired of buying new stuff every couple of years.

I got your back Ween. :hi5:

and Wor-Gar's and khev's. :lol

In the early 2000's I had my Pioneer Laserdisc player sitting under my TV *just* so I could watch the original Star Wars trilogy. Now I've got Harmy OT Star Wars on blu-ray, I'll keep my Samsung 3D TV and if I have to have a Dolby Vision HDR TV sitting side by side just for The Force Awakens then so be it. With God as my witness I'll never be denied theatrical Star Wars at home again!! :lecture

I've started looking for a new TV (it's been two long years since i last upgraded :panic:) and Sony's new XD93 looks intriguing. Is a 55" TV a bit too big if you sit 10 feet from the screen?

Just checked and my receiver is ready !

4K UltraHD / HDR / HDCP 2.2 / 4:4:4 Color Space

Now I just have to worry about my projector. Oy Vey.

I don't care about any of the TV's around my house as they are secondary to the projector in terms of movie viewing.

I'm about 9 1/2 feet from my 92 inch screen and it seems perfect.

Bring it. :rock

If anyone is planning on getting the Goosebumps movie, Best Buy has a free book with theirs, though it doesn't look like it comes with the 3D version.

I'd rather have the 3d disc than a book personally. Side note, I used to read one of those books a day as a kid lol.

Why its important to fine tune your tv and not just leave the settings out from the box:

Unaltered image from a 1980 movie, look how life like and clear it can be:

Then I decided to have some fun and calibrate it to look as if I was living inside all the destruction and debris:

That Friday 13th looks great. But what does a novice know about calibrations (novice meaning me)? My Sony looks pretty good to me... but what are the important calibrations?

I never saw it, but I do remember the movie being advertised when I was a kid. Think it was a comedy/western as I remember a native American ( otherwise known as Indians back then) arrow coming at the screen, and then they cut to a native American being interviewed in the theater lobby.

Even to a 10 year old (me) it looked like crap.

I seem to recall there being a mini 3d revival back then, which also included Friday the 13th 3D and Spacehunter : Adventures in the Forbidden Zone.

The basics involve removing it from torch mode and choosing Cinema/Calibrated/THX modes and shutting off smooth motion.

The complicated involves special equipment to manipulate the grayscale and color points to acheive the coveted D6500 standard, for starters.

The basic calibration brings you up to about 65-80% of what the director intended.

The final critical steps changes it from a good image to a near perfect image.

One more photo of my good friend Adrienne King:

Pay close attention to the foreground/background separation, almost gives it a 3D depth.
