After a couple of mildly diverting fan-servicey episodes we're back to the ineptitude demonstrated in the first half of this dumpster fire. So many problems with this series (that have already been mentioned numerous times) but for me Favreau has to take the brunt of the blame. The writing has been utterly atrocious and I suspect the only reason JF is getting a pass from some folks is because of his (predominantly) good work on Mandalorian.

Mandalorian feels like lightning in a bottle now. Hopefully Kenobi rekindles that and we can look forward to good Star Wars content in the future. Boba is a prime example of what happens when bad writing, bad acting and bad direction come together as one.

I'm convinced Favreau didn't actually write these. He got the credit but somebody (sucky) ghost-wrote the actual episodes from a loose outline he gave them. He was probably too busy with the Mando episodes to even bother overseeing the rest.

Maybe he's sitting in Hollywood as horrified as we were every week with what he's just seen and the fact that his name was slapped on it.




Or maybe he really did phone it in that bad.

Not sure I agree with the criticism that Grogu is overpowered - his achievements in this episode were pulling some sort of cog out of one of the Droidekas - which didn't disable it - and making the Rancor fall asleep - and what have we seen him do in The Mandalorian? Make things float? I feel like these are things that ought to be achievable for a 50 year old Jedi - unless we're saying that his learning ability should be correspondingly delayed and dragged out according to the lifespan of his species - and...well, maybe we are. Nevertheless I think his main superpower is cuteness armour - he cannot and will never be killed because of his cuteness.

I don't have a problem with how he's used the force. There's been a gradual progression since Mando S1 so it feels natural.

Granted there's always time and room for them to really go too far with it but I'm not sure they've done that yet.

Nah, I'm thinking until at least Mando season 3. Sometimes you just need to walk away and take a break. Season 3 of Mando is a good 10 months away.
3 months? For Kenobi? I was planning on skipping that even before BoBF turned out to be awful.

Thinking about it how much higher did Anakin's midichlorian count have to be for Anakin to potentially be more powerful than the 900 years of Yoda's experience? What powers could he have learnt that Yoda had not in all that time? Really, how can any jedi come close to Yoda. With all that time behind him he should be untouchable by any 'normal' lifespan jedi. Or else there's a certain universal peak of Jedi ability that Yoda reached within the first 100 years of his life and he's been coasting on much the same level of ability ever since. Still higher than most ever achieve but not unreachable to a normal-lifespan Jedi with a midi-chlorian count like Anakin's?

Well we are not that different in Age. 50 here. I was just surprised to see a list I would pretty much 100% agree with accept for that Spidey one. I just assumed you must have been closer to late 30's to early 40's and had a love for the animated series or something.

If I hadn't re-watched Spider-Man around the time NWH came out, it likely wouldn't have made that list -- I was surprised how it held up for me, particularly the web swinging. Plus I have a strong nostalgic attachment to the character although I don't read any of the contemporary comics.

I liked Spider-Man Ok when it came out but too much of it felt a bit like it was biting off more then it could choose (even then) and that Goblin costume... Yikes.

Oh, hate the Goblin costume but the film is of its time; which is one point less in its favour I suppose since the top films manage to be timeless.

May I add

1975 - JAWS
1977 - Star Wars

and I would swap
1979 - ALIEN for 1986 Aliens

All very fair, but my list was brutally edited to prevent scope creep. As an adult I acknowledge that Alien is unbelievably well done and in many ways superior, but I felt everyone had more to do in Aliens, just like that genre better I suppose.

I liked Star Wars better for a long time, but eventually settled on ESB for pacing, world-building and set pieces. In reality there's no ESB without Star Wars of course.

I purposely didn't include Die Hard or Jaws because as much as they're *unlikely* they aren't absolutely fantasy films, being grounded in mundane realism.

Hard to argue with T1 or T2, and An American Werewolf in London absolutely deserves to be on that list; I'm not a horror fan but I love that film.

I rewatched it the other night and still love it. The pacing holds up really well today even if some of the CGI is little bit iffy now.

Also, while not on-topic even for this off-topic discussion I still think Kirsten Dunst was hot in these films. She gets flack for the occasional not-so hot picture or for how she looks now at 40+ but back then with the flame red hair? Yes please.
