I like how they all pat themselves on the back ''improving'' things from a near 50 year old movie with today's technology -- which came out of that very movie.

They must feel really good about themselves. I bet they each got a trophy.
I know right as if somehow replicating that puts them on the same level--or above--those that originally did it in 1977.

Exactly, I don't even understand what they are bragging about. It's like if the next astronauts that go to the moon start insulting Armstrong by saying 'we did it faster and with better tech'.

That is their next episode.

Those millennials would have a meltdown in 77 lol

They would be offended by something i’m sure.

Johnston, Burt, Dykstra and Muren would kick them to the curb.

F*ck those guys. You know what made the trench run scene great? The practical effects and how well they look in the original film. I think we've all seen the camera guy in the back of the truck driving by the cobbled together model parts that comprise a piece of the death star to get a single quick pass from the run. It's things like that that make Star Wars great and ground breaking. It didn't need fixed when Lucas did it in 1997 and it sure as hell doesn't need these boners doing it now...

But but but let’s all just take a deep breath and remember that Lucas himself redid the death star assault with cgi.

Ok the millennial hatred may resume lol

Because of all the talk here I just started watching the OT for the first time since I saw the SE in theaters when I was 12. It's unreal watching the duel between Luke and Vader in ESB, how damn good it is, the sets, everything, and then thinking how unlike anything else this movie was at the time.

OT Star Wars is just an amazing feat of creativity that will NEVER be matched. The story, characters, costumes, sets, vehicles, props, art, backstories, etc etc are as close to magic as anything Hollywood has ever created.

True. LOTR is probably the closest, but there is just something about The Force and lightsabers that cannot be outdone.

It's really awe inspiring how iconic these designs are. There is no shortage of concept art designers all over Artstation and the like, but how many have the ability or imagination to come up with something like SW.

It's incredible stuff taken individually, but then when there is a sequence like the ESB Duel and you see it ALL together at once, it's really amazing.

Was it ever revealed who truly came up with tie fighters or x-wings? Lucas couldn't have come up with all of that stuff.

I think McQuarrie has a ton of impact on the visual stylings of Star Wars. I always enjoyed seeing his concept and how they evolved to the screen...

I would agree with this although LOTR had the books for many years as imagination reference. It might be as impressive a feat that they were able to translate that imagination into the three LOTR films. The Helms Deep battle remains my favorite in the series and I think they did most things in the book justice.

The old Art of books with loads of his design work is what got me into a lot of this stuff to begin with.
