Crazy not crazy. Most adults I know watch nothing but streaming whereas a lot of the kids are on Tic Tok or YouTube. The Boys built its audience with word of mouth so it kind of makes sense. This is why the Netflix model just doesn’t work, they don’t give their shows a chance to build word of mouth.
What Netflix model? Disney doesn’t release their shows all at once to binge. Not really seeing the correlation.

The Boys, for the most part, is a TV series that came out of nowhere based on a fairly niche comic book. The MCU is one of the biggest media franchises of all time.

The target audience for The Boys is mostly adults, whereas Marvel attempts to cater to all ages.

It’s pretty embarrassing that Disney/Marvel are getting outdone by a random superhero show. Shows the quality and appeal of the MCU just isn’t as strong as it once was.

Trailer was just OK. Looks like they are trying too much this season. Like "look how edgy we are". I dont know, ill have to see. Last season was the best though.

So far this season is just not good. RT audience score reflects that. What happened to the writing???
The RT audience score is complaining about the show being “woke” and “political” when it’s always been that.

These examples are just from the first page.

I think it was always left leaning, but at this point all subtlety and attempts at balance are gone, and with the overall quality of writing taking a knock the result feels more like preach8ng to the audience than entertaining the audience. Frenchie was already established as LGBTQ but his actions this season seem out of character as he takes a left turn with no prior build up to it.

But those aren't the primary issue for me. It is that the show has become dull and seemingly lacking a direction, relying on gore etc as a crutch instead of those things enhancing the story.

I don't think it was ever subtle to be honest :lol.

I don't really agree, I've still been loving it and feel pretty engaged and entertained whilst watching it. We know it's wrapping up next season and things are ramping up towards some potentially catastrophic events.

I've always binge watched this show. So I'll wait till its over.

And, like most things today, I expect it to to become more and more reflective of today's current socio political trends with each new season. Sad, but whatever. They (the hollywood collective) can't help themselves. Escapism from the everyday seems hardly possible now a days. It's more refreshing and surprising today when a show ISN'T following the norms.

But I do agree that each season seems to get weaker as far as story and seems to just rely more on shock value. It's still entertaining for the most part. Nothing has angered me, yet, to the point of no return. I still enjoy watching Homelander kill everyone. :lol Especially since there are no actual Heroes in this show.

There is just way way way more original content out there now compared to when Netflix rolled out House Of Cards / Orange Is The New Black.

Netflix has the advantage of getting real time advanced metrics on their shows, which will show how quickly a specific title can and does engage the audience. I like 1899, and it got cancelled quickly, but I understand why it was cancelled. Netflix is taking a macro view and looking at the practical ratios. If one show breaks out after struggling too much to start, then will that benefit outweigh the 10 other shows that struggled and simply stayed struggling.

Modern showrunners have to adapt to the current environment. Sometimes you need to be a little lucky. The Wire would have been cancelled on any other network besides HBO after it's 2nd season. If HBO didn't have a powerful lineup ( Sopranos, *** And The City, etc) as headliners, it would never have been able to carry the weight of Wire being an anchor. NBC in early 90s had massive success. That allowed them to carry Homicide Life On The Streets for 7 seasons when it's ratings were abysmal though being a critical darling. Again, right place, right time. Without HLOTS, we would have never gotten Andre Braughner and all his other/later career work.

The only thing I can say for certain with The Boys is that the showrunner and writers hate Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. Despise her. The Neuman character is a pretty obvious dig at her. Jeff Bezos has long been at war with AOC, and this show isn't trying to conceal his disdain for her. I've never seen as much open dog whistling as I have in the last five years of modern original content for television. Sister Sage is a soft mockup of Oprah and Shonda Rhimes, so at least the personal shots are spread out. I like the new dynamic with Sage and Homelander. The stuff with Frenchie doesn't bother me.

Netflix knows it's going to lose some potentially good shows but the numbers don't lie. Odds on, better to let go of a show a year too soon than a year too late.

Also lol at the guy saying “just buy the comic books instead” like the comic books aren’t absolute trash and we are lucky the show didn’t adapt it
