The comedy is what made this gold. When the old man from the gas station calls in and is doing his speech of doom and just stops... wait, am I on speaker phone?
I was rolling during that whole scene. :rotfl

:lecture I think my favorite line in the movie dealt with the basement door flying open.
"The wind must've blown it open."
"That makes sense how?"

eh, I still wouldn't label it as a comedy. The scenes such as where Jules is killed, The Scholar kid gets killed, Dana screaming at the hell lord, stuff like that I just wouldn't consider being in a comedy movie. It's like Whedon's The Avengers. Had a lot of humor in it like Cabin, but I would not label THAT as a comedy either. Cabin is for the MOST part pretty serious-toned, it's just that it's done so self-aware and over-the-top that it's hilarious, but I still wouldn't consider it a comedy. A comedic horror-satire or something, maybe, but definitely not a comedy.I've seen it 3 times now, and even though the first time I might have labeled it as a comedy, after the third time I can tell you that there are too many scenes that were too dark to justify it being a comedy.

It's a dark comedy. Dark comedies are the best.

But yeah, it is a horror-comedy. Just like Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness.

it's just a horror comedy, like Shaun of the Dead or Seed of Chucky,
it is a cross over of the genres

It's 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. How much more convincing do people need? lol

BUT... I Am seeing how alot of people just don't like or get the concept of the movie.

:goodpost: The people who didn't like it probably either didn't get it, or didn't like that kind of satire.

Why are people so torn when it comes to this film? Is it a comedy? Is it a f'd up horror? Is it a soft core porno? Is it like Severance?

It's a horror comedy that's a satire on the cliche's on horror films.
And a statement on the films today.

It's a simple as that. People wanted something else. And the movie brings that up as well.

Oh cool. I'll have to give it a watch. I love those dark horror comedies. If you haven't seen Severance you should check it out.

I guess people that hated this also hated things like Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream, Friday the 13th and my Bloody Valentine,

I guess that type of horror is just not everyone
specially nightmare on elm Street

One of things is not like the other.

And one of those things is Nightmare on Elm Street.

they all share things with Cabin, the humor and the horror, some of the Friday movies were serious, but parts 6, 8, 10, those have pretty silly moments, NIghtmare 2345, all are horror comedies,
and even if you say they are not, (which I know you will say), at least they have a similar feel to Cabin, at least the first half of cabin anyways,

of course they are not the same type of movies, they don't follow the same plot or anything, that is obvious, but for example Friday part 6 had a self awareness that felt similar to Scream or Cabin, a lot of breaking the 4th wall moments, and comedic tone as well,
