Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I loved Shaman, Gothic and Venom, so I can't see it being anything but great. :duff

Yeah, im sure you'll love it then. Shaman was another top story for me too. Loved Gothic and Venom, just not as much as Shaman and Prey. Plus i'm a big fan of Hugo Strange too. I know its not too popular but the follow up to Prey, Terror, was also a great read. A lot of people would disagree but i thought it was really good. Worth checking out if you haven't already read it. Especially if you like Scarecrow.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Shaman was the best. If extra money turns up, I'll check out Terror. Despite the negativity that one gets, it's pretty expensive now too.

Other Realms was also pretty cool. Strange, but the series managed to get away with some really outlandish stuff without losing the sense of being Batman tales.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Yeah, i had a job finding Terror at a good price, but keep an eye out and good deals pop up now and again. Its not as good as Prey but still a really good read, and a nice follow up from Prey. All those early Legends of the Dark Knight trades were great.

Gothic was one of my first exposures to Batman outside of the Adam West TV show. It was one of the few graphic novels stocked at my local library back when I was a kid. I was blown away by it. I almost felt like I shouldn't be reading it because of my age. I read it a bunch of times. Eventually, whoever checked out DKR returned it, and the rest is history.

Between Batman Begins and Legends of the Dark Knight TPB's, I got back into Batman. I was a huge fan of the tv show until I was about 5, but I never had access to comics as a kid. The first thing I got after that was Super-Friends, and then Tim Burton, which I hated. I swore off comics completely until Nolan saved Batman for me. When I wanted more, I read Year One, Shaman and Gothic. That was the Batman I remembered (how I got that from Adam West, I'll never know) and now all is right with the world.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

You really need to read the long Halloween at it's sequels if you haven't already

Agreed, Long Halloween is possibly my favourite Batman book. Great story, great twists, great overall interpretation of Batman and the world around him. And fits in pretty well with the early "Legends..." TPB's, although there are a couple of little continuity problems. I always find them easy to over look though and just enjoy the read as is.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I have read Long Halloween. It's brilliant. Just got Dark Victory and Haunted Knight recently, but haven't read them.

My Batman library is huge. I read almost nothing but Batman from 2005-2008. Continuity has never been an issue for me. I like it a lot when they can keep long stretches together, but as long as the atmosphere stays in tact, a Batman story is a Batman story.

Yeah thats pretty much how much i see it. I have some of the batman annuals where they were doing sort of "year one's" for the villains. Some of those were great, with two-face, scarecrow and the riddler. And the Man Who Laughs, probably my favourite Joker story. I like the fact that i can read them all as pretty much continuing the same long story, but a few things wont add up. But as you said, i can ignore that and focus on them as great stories.

Man Who Laughs is great. Still a bigger fan of Killing Joke though.

I have a lot of work to do with issues that haven't been anthologized. As soon as I feel like I have breathing room with figures, I'm going on that hunt full time.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Comic continuity confuses the hell out of me, I generally just read the stories and don't try to follow too closely. There are just too many retcons, and deaths and rebirths, etc. Even so, I do tend to try to figure out where stories fit in chronologically. Wikipedia helps with that.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Batman's not too tricky (if you want scrambled continuity, try figuring out Black Canary). Publishing order is what I go by too. If there are canon events with any importance, they fall into place on their own.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Hmm, while we're on the subject of Batman comics I may as well ask.

When I was a kid, I remember this WEIRD Batman comic. It was an elseworld one-shot and I recall being freaked out by it. All I remember was that it took place in some dark future, Batman was a flying demon, the Joker was some ugly twisted ruler with nipples or something and the protagonist, if you could even call him that was like a Joker worshiper. He painted his face like the Joker and was part of some Joker cult.

Does anyone know where this particular story is from? I remember it turned me off of comics (it was around the time where "what ifs" were abundant, like Gotham by Gaslight).

It was really strange. I've tried finding it online but it almost seems as though it doesn't exist.

I remember parts of it vividly though. The protagonist ended up killing his girlfriend or something and eventually hunted the "real" Joker down.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Tom Hardy on Bane! Very slim pickings, but were gonna see him weigh in just under 200 pounds.

That compares to Bale being between 190 and 220 in Begins. Hmmm

Tom Hardy Talks A Little More About Playing Bane In The Dark Knight Rises!
In an interview on a British chat show tonight, the actor talked about the previous interpretation of Bane in Batman and Robin, how this will change with Chris Nolan's vision, the mask, bulking up and more...
After talking to Samuel L. Jackson about The Avengers last week, it was Tom Hardy's turn to appear on British chat show, Alan Carr: Chatty Man, this time. The show is still on as I type this, but I managed to quickly transcribe what he had to say when asked about his role as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. The following transcript is as accurate as possible.

"Have you seen the Joel Shumacher Batman and Robin? Doesn't look very menacing does he?" [Laughs]

When asked whether or not he'll be donning a similar "gimp" mask in the upcoming movie, he paused for a few seconds as if struggling to find an answer until finally replying with the following joke:

"Well...only if I feel like it!"

Continuing to talk about the previous version of Bane, the actor then went on to emphasise that it won't be anything like that one and that as with the other movies, Christopher Nolan has his own plans for how the character will be portrayed.

"Chris Nolan will revisit the character so I wouldn't go by that at all."

"I'm going to need to bulk up a lot for it. That's a lot of weight to put on and I've got to start shooting in May. I've got to go up to about 13 or 14 stone. I'm 12 and a bit now, so only have a few months to do that."

The Dark Knight Rises is set to be released on July 20, 2012!

I trust Nolan and Hardy to do justice to Bane. Just been waiting to see a villain that can beat the ____ out of Bats. That and Anne in the cat suit.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

the only problem with the Long Halloween is that after you read it I feel that no other books come close to it. I do love all batman stories though.

The best way to pick up graphic novels for cheap is to buy them used at amazon I think.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Even new at Amazon is a deal.

It was really strange. I've tried finding it online but it almost seems as though it doesn't exist.

Do you have a year?

I've never heard of it, but I'm a newb. My best friend has read comics since the early 80's (Batman, X-Men, and Conan consistently), but I've never heard him mention it either.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

It was the early 90's, that's all I can remember. In one of my google searches I thought it was a book titled "Batman, I Joker" or "Batman/Dark Joker: The Wild", but looking at their synopsis and covers it really doesn't match what I remember.

This crap was weird, the Joker and Batman being really grotesque. The image I recall the most is the guy putting on the Joker make up, then killing his girlfriend. I think I even remember one of his lines after killing her left an impression on me. It was like "Clarity, Charity, whatever her damn name was".

It bothers the hell out of me because it's so easy to find things with the internet world we live in, but for some damn reason I CANNOT find this one. I'm not about to guess and buy some weird one offs on ebay or online either.

The crazies on Superherohype probably know it, but I'll probably never sign up on there.
