Also, what was up with Thanduril's face melting away on the check? I know he mentioned he fought dragons before, but I don't know what's up with the cheek.

As for Smaug, there has been many dragons of cinema, some more impressive than others, but Smaug has been the one true wyrm in cinematic history.

All first age stuff... All of them were born then...Smaug and others were young baby dragons that escaped from the Wrath of the Valar...Along with Shelob and the last Balrog...Ancaligon the Black was the biggest/baddest...Glaurung was the first(no wings though)
