Bad *** Digest:

I would make a "The Desolation of SLOG" joke here, but everyone in the film pronounces "Smaug" like "proud" for some reason, so it doesn't quite work.

But yeah, this movie is a drag. Just a chain of endless, incessant, incoherent set pieces. Very little, you know, dialogue, or character work, or anything other than a bunch of scenes of half-baked looking monsters running around and yelling at each other. Martin Freeman has proven himself to be one of the only characters with any real personality in The Hobbit films, and also IT'S CALLED THE HOBBIT, so his dearth of screentime is a problem. Evangeline Lilly is pretty good and I sort of liked the Sherlock reunion, but mostly this felt like a collection of Blu-ray bonus material.

Ouch!

I read the ending, and it sounded pretty cool. Not what you'd expect. Could be a fun ride.

Also, I've since watched all the LOTR flicks thanks to Wal-Mart being cheap, and I have reevaluated my opinion.

Fellowship is the best film. I wish it was more stand alone....but as it stands, it's pretty amazing. Visually the best of the whole series too. There's something unique and experimental about the first one. The other two are good, but don't have quite the same magic as FOTW does.

I think Return of the King is my favorite, the extended edition of ROTK is just non stop chills for me. I just love what they did with the villains in that one. The scene with the nazgul flying down during the Siege of Gondor with the music and Gandalf yelling "do not give into fear, fiiight!" is probably my favorite scene of everything, ever. I fully digital shot as well, which I'm usually not that fond of. But everything about that scene just feels so thrilling, and it's so convincing as well. Way more then all the other digital shots in AUJ for example. Everyone just loses their ****ing minds in that scene, pandemonium.

There is no favorite for me, all 3 LOTR films make one cohesive masterpiece for me.
I just think the characters are stronger together then apart.

I really love all the scenes in all three films with Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas, Gandalf, Boramir, Frodo, and Sam. To me, they make the series worth watching. Which is why I feel like Fellowship is so strong. The way the characters interact with each other is genuinely interesting, and you do feel it when they all split up.

It's a good story structure idea, and works perfectly fine. But it felt more focused in Fellowship.

Yeah, they all had good chemistry. I loved the 3 Hunter's segments from Two Towers as well. I also missed Gandalf the Grey, so I'm glad we get to see more of him in the Hobbit films.

I am disappointed to hear that one of the most unique-looking Orcs to date, Bolg, has been replaced by a CG model.

RIP Conan Steven's Bolg. :(

That Bolg is pretty sweet looking. I'm glad I got a figure of it from TBD in their figure line. I'm not shocked it got changed though with Azog being CGI and all. Funny thing about all the orcs and goblins is how many of them have the bodies are man in suit but the heads are CGI.

That's the same exact guy that was killed by Dwalin at Moria after Azog's arm left him

He wasn't killed, just defeated. That Bolg was to be Azog's right hand man throughout the rest of the series, but PJ had him CG'd over. They used a completely new actor, Lawrence Makoare, and motion capture.

Look who's back, Bad Boy! :lol

I'm different than everyone else. It's TT, FotR and the RotK.

Though I agree that they're just one masterpiece.
