I don't think you catch the drift of my argument Teddy. No one is saying not to talk about the darkness of humanity or history here (though I would hope more would learn about Hitler through books than dramatic movies ). In Downfall, despite the fact that Hitler came off as a human being, you never forgot who Hitler was and what he did. I doubt anyone apart from Nazi sympathizers walked out of that movie thinking--y'know what, Hitler was pretty cool!
I don't know much about the character this new film is about, but it appears he killed people for kicks and was a genuine serial killer without any remorse or scruples. If they show this guy to be what he really was, then that's great. But if they downplay what he was, making him appear a bit more likable than he probably was in the effort to tell a good story and put butts in seats, then that would be unfortunate, because he was a real person who created real suffering. But Hollywood isn't in the business of educating people about history and current events. It's about entertaining, and often concessions will be made in regard to showing things as they are. Downfall is a rare exception of a movie that pulls no punches but achieves some commercial success.
