I really really liked all 3 of the animated feature-length films... Legend of the hungry wolf is one of my best anime of all time. Right up there with Ninja Scroll and Vampire Hunter D

Yeah I've never been a KOF guy. I like the character designs (Terry Bogard is my favorite), but I have to be honest I've only played a couple KOF games briefly and the Capcom vs. SNK games.

I'm not good at them either.

But I'll definitely buy KOFXII, it looks too good to pass! Lots of great fighting games this year.

Yeah, the character designs are amazing. I LOVE Blue Mary, Vanessa, and Kula Diamond. And the male characters look cool (though some have that androgynous look Anime is so infamous for... I'm looking at you, Benimaru )

But there's just a stiffness to the gameplay that I could never get past--like it's in between Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter.

I remember a friend in college was awesome in KOF and would kick my butt no problem, but it was the opposite for us when it came to SF--I would crush him We just couldn't break out of the play styles

I think Capcom vs. SNK (both 1 & 2) was a good balance between the KOF gameplay and Capcom's style. However, I think those games leaned toward Capcom a bit because it was designed internally by Capcom developers.

I remember trying the SNK developed game SVC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom, but it was stiff, like the previous SNK fighters.

the one thing I hated about the Capcom vs. SNK games were the reused SF Alpha sprites... why only some characters while others got redrawn? It really made the game look cheap.

You'd better not play Marvel vs Capcom 2 then since that recycles sprites from Marvel Super Heros, you might see Thanos and go blind with rage.

Here's hoping that the home release of KOF XII gets a major roster boost over the arcade release. I wish we'd see some incarnation of the NESTS arc new hero team, the band team, and a woman's team.

Haha... I'm fine with MvC2 because the characters all have the same overall look and animation; none of the characters stick out like a sore thumb designwise. There just was a huge improvement in the new art for CvSNK that didn't mesh well with the recycled art. Recycled animation and sprites are fine, but there has to be a uniform look to the game. If the recycled art drags the overall visual impact down, then I say take the effort to redraw everything.

Mai is good, but I also want King and Yuri . That current roster is a total sausage fest.

I'm seriously hoping the home release is majorly expanded and we don't get a tuned-up 'KOF XII-2' released next year with better balance and a real roster. Which will be what the "ultimate" 2-D fighting game really should have been from the start and what we'll ultimately all be playing until 'KOF XII: 3rd Strike' comes out the year after that

...and yes I'm joking, but not completely

Ohh, I like the 360 cover art much more than the PS3 version.

But those screen shots don't make the characters look very high res... can anyone who can read Japanese tell me what's going on (if there's any explanation on the page)?

The page just annouces the two new characters, some of the game play modes, the online modes, and a soundtrack CD. Nothing heavy duty.

The sprites are hi-rez, but they are still "sprites"

Slow to load, but actually pretty cool to look at... you know if you're into this sort of thing.

It seems like they probably plan on eventually having all the characters and stages available to look at. No telling when that might be though.

I'm probably not going to pick this up until I get my SF TE stick back from MadCatz that I sent in for repairs. =(

How does the demo look compared to BlazBlue (if you've seen both of them)? Based on the vids of KOF I've seen online, it seems like BB is a bit sharper, but KOF has much better shading on their characters. But it's hard to compare crappy PC vids to BB, which I have running on my HDTV...
