Re: 'The Last of Us' - new IP from Naughty Dog

Finally purchased this game 2 days ago and this is easily the best game I have purchased since "Max Payne 3" from last year..."Tomb Raider" was definately an amazing game released this year as well.

...but I must say that I have never played a game that literally made me scared at many moments. I am not talking about the feeling like "man if I do not survive I will have to play this whole section all over again!"...but I mean real fear that I feel as one or several of those Clickers sneak up on me in the dark as I am racing to slowly load the revolver just so I can shoot these things at the very last split second right before they try and grab me and chew my neck apart barely surviving. My face will become flushed and my heart rate will go through the roof.
Now that is what I call one kick arse game.

I chose to start the game on "Hard" and to me that is the perfect level as this will force you to really have to use strategy throughout rather than just running and gunning because not playing it smart will get you killed over and over again.

*Minor Spolier Alert*: I am at the part where Ellie and Joel just parted ways with Bill and now we have crashed into another town.
I am taking my sweet arse time playing this game as I want it to last as long as possible and so far it has taken me a little over 7 Hours to get where I am at...I hope the game ends up being long because according to my stats I am already almost halfway through the game.

My only complaint...the graphics while beautiful and nice...are not the best graphics Sony has put out on their PS3. Also even after turning down the brightness and adjusting my HDTV to a lower level the graphics in this game are way too "vivid". Another words everything seems way too bright during the scenes that take place during the daytime when outside.

This game to me has strong elements taken from the movie "the Road", and "the Walking Dead" series.

A must buy for sure...although I am quite sure that pretty much everyone has played this game by now.

It did this to me and to my brother too. Seems it is pushing the PS3 so far to its capabilities the older ones sometimes just can't hack it!

Re: 'The Last of Us' - new IP from Naughty Dog

I can't run this thing without my PS3 sounding like a jet engine. It really utilizes all of PS3's power and more.

That is just ****ty luck, doubt it has anything to do with the game, not like it is spinning faster or something. Mine broke a few months after I got it right before I got the first Uncharted.

Re: 'The Last of Us' - new IP from Naughty Dog

I still can't believe I went 5 years with 0 issues with my fat model. Luck has much to do with it.

Re: 'The Last of Us' - new IP from Naughty Dog

thermal paste, thermal paste, thermal paste..............................no more jet engine. no more ylod either.

Re: 'The Last of Us' - new IP from Naughty Dog

this game runs solely off the blueray. there was no preinstall. thats why my blueray cant handle it. its also why i have to put kz3 in 5 times for it to start. MGRR is starting this crap too.

Re: 'The Last of Us' - new IP from Naughty Dog

So did I. :duff

Alas it could not handle the awesomeness of this game I guess. Fair enough really. :lol

It's probably the toughest game on a console right now in terms of processing it requires. After 10 minutes my fan goes nuts :lol

I had a few instances of crashing but not in awhile.

Re: 'The Last of Us' - new IP from Naughty Dog

Yeah I learned very early on that horizontal is suicide. I remember playing Resistance and it would get so hot I could cook food on it.

Re: 'The Last of Us' - new IP from Naughty Dog

its a very poor design. the fat sucks air from the front where there is barely an inlet and it expells through the top and back. it bottlenecks the airflow to the point where it cooks the thermal paste and processor, in turn melting the solder. ylod. thats why your fan sounds like a jet because it is always on high speed to try to push all that hot air out. it never can so it goes off constantly.

Re: 'The Last of Us' - new IP from Naughty Dog

I keep my PlayStation horizontal. It's also sitting on top of 4 gel risers. I try not to run it more than a few hours at a time. I make sure to listen to it. If I can hear it's getting tired, I shut it down. Have to treat these things like they cost a million bucks to replace.

Re: 'The Last of Us' - new IP from Naughty Dog

thermal paste, every year. problem solved. also good air flow. this is what i did to my ps3 slim. its quiet all the time.

It was happening to me too, I just cleaned the vent gaps in my PS3, which looked like a ****ing jungle btw, it was gross :lol but after that my PS3 was running like a kitten, even after 3 or 4 hours of gameplay, it was silent as one of my dogs farts.

You should clean it up too.

Re: 'The Last of Us' - new IP from Naughty Dog

I've got to say, I'm very surprised that I never had a crash while playing this game. I brought my PS3 to a friend's house, recently, to let him experience this game, and he came back and said that my vents and ports in the back were clogged with dust. Suffice it to say, that's no longer an issue, but, if it's as difficult to run as you guys say it is, I'm really shocked that I didn't have an incident.

Re: 'The Last of Us' - new IP from Naughty Dog

Yeah, this gives my PS3 a workout as well. I may try to clean mine.
