LET THE CUSTOMS BEGIN!

The Ringwraith looks much better than I was expecting, of course he's just black cloth in a box. Gimli is also quite nice -- the sculpt is solid! The face is great -- his beard has a lot of detail, although its a bit stylized. I think a minor repaint will help, as the base paint isn't too bad -- exaggerated but not bad -- some smoothing of colors, and a good wash and he should be fine. The beard needs to be made more orange. I expected the belt to be plastic but it looks like leather. Another nice surprise.

I think these will both serve my purposes and make fine customs once a lot of work is done. But they're really nice base figures.

I'll crack them free tomorrow and take some better pics when I have light.

I think ebay is your best bet. I don't think too many e-tailers would have these anymore since they are a couple years old.

They seem to turn up now and then, you just have to be patient... and quick, now that more people are on the lookout for them. Hang in there.

Wor-Gar: Congrats on your latest score! If you figure out a good way to make that Black Rider as tall as he ought to be, please let me know. Also, I noticed that the ToyBiz Gimli's eyes are blue, same as the DiD Gimli. I have some good closeup photos of John Rhys-Davies as Gimli, and his eyes are most definitely brown. Also, his beard is a reddish-brown, and not so dark.

If you need any painting refs, LMK and I'll try to post some for you.

Thanks, and any pics you got would sure help. I'm going to try and do some touch-up paintwork on him myself. I agree about the beard most definitely. I had no idea about the eyes, but that's an easy fix.

As to the Ringwraith, I'll know later today just how tall he is compared with Sideshow figures. He looks huge in the box. I believe he's close to correct based on dwing's pics.

Just nabbed a DID Gimli for $18.95 using BUY IT NOW!

Now I just need the Toybiz Gimli and I'll bash the 2 together to make the ultimate Gimli. From the posts by kuzeh here:

It looks like the DID Gimli is the perfect size...but the Toybiz has the better head sculpt and maybe a few other little things (gauntlets, boots...)

Thus I think I'll go along Darklord Dave's path and make an ultimate Gimli using parts of both!
