I disagree with this. Everybody wanted to know the history behind the rise and fall of Vader. Otherwise all three of the PT films wouldn't be in the top 50 grossing films of all time. And remember. To get there, that's not just single viewings, but repeat viewings by multiple people.

That's not the point I was making though.

I'm not talking about what people, the viewing public, wanted to see. What I mean is that there was a good fundamental reason for him making the first film, a creative reason.

For the prequels, what was the creative drive for making them? Of course everyone was curious about the back story, but that doesn't mean that you automatically have a good story to tell, or that you should give people what they think they want.

if you really observe SW and TESB, both have a different feel to them. I credit that to Gary kurtz. From all the stuff I've read about the films, he seems to be the One person who would basiclly look at stuff and say "this sucks and needs fixed" What any good producer does. When Lucas showed up on the set of TESB, looked at dailies and said "Your ruining my movie" it was the begining of the end of thier relationship. There's several books that discuss this especially "empire building"

And thats the bottom line of the prequels. I don't think Rick McCallum is a good enough producer to put his foot down and thats why the prequals arent as good as the OT. NO ONE stopped and said "Hey George, this could have been better." or "that needs some work" I think E3 is the best but has THE WORST dialog especially during the final duel. Couldn't ANYBODY stop and say, "george, this dialog sucks, it needs to be fixed."???

He also had lots of very honest friends around when he made SW, such as Brian de Palma who was responsible for Lucas changing the opening crawl at the last minute.

Hi guys... do you know where I can find the first hardback book of the making of star wars a new hope? I've looked on ebay but there aren't.
THANKS for your help.

Failed logic. The bolded text can be applied to the PT as well. The creative drive was him finally telling the whole story of Darth Vader, which is the focal point and always has been; The Rise and Fall of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. We've all heard him state, many times, that the OT was just half the story and what that story was about. Saying there was no creative drive to make the PT is absurd. That's the whole reason it was made, to finish the story.

no man, the worst is :

"anakin, palpatine is Evil!"

"from my point of view, the jedi are evil!"

Its the freaking worst!! That entire scene could have been so much better! The only lines that work are:

"You were my brother Anakin. I loved you." spoken by the one actor in the PT that did his job perfect through all 3, crappy dialog and all. Ewan mcgregor.

Ewan McGregor was the best thing about the PT. I loved him as Obi-Wan.

I'm not attempting to be logical, it's just my honest opinion.

I understand why he made the prequels, I just don't think it was as creatively interesting a reason as the originals.

I started out impressed but it's really quite a poor performance. It doesn't help that they made the character such a tool of course.

I agree, the dialogue for ROTS was terrible, and Hayden's acting was horrible. Ewan McGregor really was the best of the bunch I think...

Part of acting depends on how an actor is directed by the director! ;)

It was a fail on George Lucas's part....

"Only the Sith deal in absolutes" (which is of course an absolute statement in itself). One of the most retarded lines in movie history.

Almost as laughable as AOTC's "I wish I could just wish away my feelings."

:lol Lucas :slap

Lucas coulda use Carrie Fisher as the script doctor but she said he should do it himself. I read that years ago, I think she didn't want to go thru the same fights over again. Anyhoo, see Empire. The actors came up with their own ideas and lines. Especially Harrison's input. Read there was so much quarrels during the making of Empire but the end result turned out to be the best episode in the 6.

I felt ROTS is too short and the turn of Anakin to Vader was too fast. Wish they use Leonardo Dicaprio as Anakin, he would bring out the anguish more so than Hayden. But what's done is done, I don't hate the prequels. I just hate Jar Jar Binks and the butt ugly Neimodians or how you spell it... I have my dislike with a lot of the designs but that was mentioned in another thread.

Anyhoo, I wish I PO more of this version. I like both the clone designs and hope sometimes down the line in the upcomg live-action tv series, that we might see a couple more versions of the clone designs before final design stage of the Stormtrooper. I wish SS will reproduce those too, I missed every single one. Darnit!

Yeah, but he was a tool in the OT too...from a certain point of view.
