Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I really hope Sir Lee can live to see both movies. I know he's a huge Tolkien fan and being part of these movies meant a lot to him. It's also good to see him in good spirits.:)

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Can anybody answer the age old question for me. Why didn't Gandalf and Frodo just ride the eagles to Mount Doom? Is it because the Eye and the Nazgul would have seen them and the eagles couldn't take em'?

I think you pretty much answered your question, I guess the Nazgul would have attacked them in the air on their dragons(sorry don't know what they were called.)

Christopher Lee is quite the individual, he fought in WWII and some missions he was on are still classified till this day. I also read somewhere that he was telling Peter Jackson during filming of LOTR what sound a knife makes when stabbing someone!

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Yup, that was mentioned in the ROTK EE documentaries. Christopher Lee was speaking of the scene where Wormtongue stabs Saruman, and was giving his personal knowledge.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Yes.

He's played by Benedict Cumberbatch as is Smaug.

Interesting. Didn't realize that Sauron was actually cast.

I would like to see that, but it won't happen. There's a couple different the biggest, it's not titled "The Lord of The Rings: The Hobbit" people are unfamiliar with The Hobbit and might not even know that it's in the same universe as LOTR. While I'd like to see this film break records, it most likely won't. Especially if you mean of all time. This movie and Spider-Man will most likely be extremely close to each other's BO's

Believe me, the few that don't know The Hobbit is related to LOTR will know by December 2012. The studio will make sure of that.

Are we talking internationally?? Internationally The Hobbit (Parts 1 AND 2) will make over 1 billion each. I have no doubt about that. Especially after LOTR, and the fact that The Hobbit is one of the best loved books ever. Add to that 3D as well, and you've got at least a billion at the box office.

:exactly:

I think what really hurt the line was the placement. In the books it was only a small part of a larger piece of dialogue that occured before the fight began:

"But no living man am I! You look upon a woman! Eowyn I am, Eomund's daughter. You stand between me and my lord and kin. Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him."

Turning it into a one liner for the final blow really killed the moment.

PJ utterly failed with his handling of this scene. As I've said many times before the Rankin Bass cartoon has more dramatic impact and is truer to the book than PJ's version which was a complete disappointment for me.

1 billion world-wide for the Hobbit?? Maybe. The world is so down and out now that either they will clamor for some escape or not get interested. I swear when I was a kid blockbusters meant something different than they do now. It seems there is no enduring cultural event when it comes to movies. I guess Avatar had some legs, Titanic as well, but as a child of the 70s Star Wars was everything.

Are we still talking about this?

The Eagles swore to never enter Mordor whilst Sauron existed which is recorded in Tolkiens writing somewhere (I'm sure someone can point you in the right direction :wink1: )

The Hobbit is going to be massively entertaining and disappointing at the same time I think as it is such a well loved story that it's bound to not meet all expectations and leave some wanting more to be added, adjusted etc, and others stunned by it's brilliance. A sign of a GREAT movie :lecture

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

The only thing that worries me about the Hobbit, is the fact that you are with all dwarves and one hobitses. I'm gonna miss the fellowship :( :lol

Still can't wait though!

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

It will be nice to revisit old friends

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

One can't compare The Hobbit from LOTR. Both are beloved in their own ways. Had LOTR not come before The Hobbit, you'd probably be missing the 13 dwarves, and not think about the Fellowship.

This whole site is beating a dead horse, hell half the internet is the same conversation occurring without knowledge of the exact same conversation occurring elsewhere. I didn't bring the issue up but I will state my opinion, especially on this scene, regardless of people using snarky emoticons to be dismissive.

Yeah...well...at least half of them...because Sidehow would have left out either Fili or Kili, either Bifur or Bofur, either Balin or Dwalin, either Ori or Dori, either Oin or Gloin, and either Thorin or Bombur, and left us with half of the Dwarves.

Well at least we would get a new line from them. Either 'The Hobbit Dwarf busts' (top half)
Or 'Walking boots of Middle Earth' (bottom half) :lecture

:lol
