Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Its like ten years since LOTR, and we are very lucky to have both Ian's and Mr Lee alive still to play there roles. Christopher lee fought in both world war's didnt he? Warrior.

He was in World War II. The last combat veteran of the Great War (a British naval officer) died in May 2011, while the last veteran of the trenches died in 2009. I think the surviving uniformed personnel (all non-combatants) can be counted on one hand.

:dunno

Gandalf totally had to take over for him during the battle.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Been reading the abridged version of The Silmarillion

:thud:

At least I now have a little better comprehension of the older history on most of these characters, things being said and mentioned in the LOTR now make more sense to me (Numenoreans, Dunedain, where Sauron and Balrogs came from, etc).

So will the Necromancer (Sauron) be seen in the Hobbit movie?

I'm naming my next kid Isildur, everytime he does something bad I will yell out his name like Elrond does :lol

I'm sure they will put that form of Sauron in there.

I'm over half way to finishing The Sil and I'm having a really good time reading it. Its been pretty cool to get an idea of how Middle-Earth got started.

Yes. That's how they are getting Galadriel and Saruman in the movie. They are members of the White Council that oust The Necromancer from Mirkwood. It's the reason Gandalf bails on the dwarf company in the text of the Hobbit.

I predict this will be the climax of the first Hobbit film.

Going to bed now. (just got off work a few hrs ago)

I just wanted to say.

2012, good for movies for me. Spider-Man!! Batman (i guess.) And a few others... But this, this will be the grand-daddy.

The other ones will be great, but this one is the only one that will be EPIC!

I agree this is the movie to see in 2012 but I think this and or part 2 will set the record for largest box office take.

I would like to see that, but it won't happen. There's a couple different the biggest, it's not titled "The Lord of The Rings: The Hobbit" people are unfamiliar with The Hobbit and might not even know that it's in the same universe as LOTR. While I'd like to see this film break records, it most likely won't. Especially if you mean of all time. This movie and Spider-Man will most likely be extremely close to each other's BO's

This years box office will go most likely go like this.

The Dark Knight Rises
The Avengers
The Hobbit
Spider-Man
Prometheus
The Hunger Games

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I disagree. Plenty of people will know about The Hobbit by the time we get to December. The way the teaser was done telling people its the same director that did LOTR and how it had a LOTR feel to it will help. I've seen an article already that says betting places are taking money that The Hobbit part 1 will make more than ROTK did at the box office which is more than 1.1 billion dollars, and that both Hobbit films will make more than all 3 LOTR movies combined. All of which I think could totally happen. As I said I think it will but it might not. We shall see sometime next year when its run in the theaters is over.

Edit: Even if it doesn't there's no way it finishes third behind either of Batman or The Avengers. Hell, I don't think Batman will even finish second.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I think The Avengers will finish second. Either way they're going to be behind The Hobbit.

Nah, The Avengers won't do near as well as others this year. It will make around the same as IM 2 did maybe a bit more. 500-600 million. Spidey won't get that high, TDKR will pass that. The Hobbit will probably be closer to The Avengers now that I think about it.

You have to remember that people like us will most likely see all of them, most likely more than once. Where "normal" movie goers only go so many times during the year.
