Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I'm super excited for a return to Middle Earth! The wait is awful. Did I mention we just has a LOTR marathon at my place? 10 AM to 1 AM, extended editions with a total newbie, and a two hour break for dinner. The newbie fell right into the story and was enraptured. It was an amazing way to waste an entire day.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

The Narnia films can't do it right when they keep bringing back the White Witch. Besides, I don't see it as something PJ would be interested in. Thats what sets the LOTR films apart from most other franchises (like Narnia) is that PJ has no interest in injecting Fan Wank into his films.

It may not be something he's interested in but he's 100000000x better than anyone attached to Narnia. So I trust he can do it right. When it comes to Aragorn (especially if they end up having any part of it that leads into LOTR). Legolas will work fine seeing and I don't see that as stretching it much at all. If he doesn't its fine by me as well. I've read these stories more times than I can count so I don't mind as close to the source material as possible (seeing as thats close to my heart) but some well done minor tweaks I don't mind either. Thats how much I trust PJ.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Like Simon says on AI "This pencil isn't a magic wand that makes impossible things happen"... Hold on.. Maybe PJ does have a magic wand. :monkey3

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Has it been confirmed that Orlando Bloom will be reprising the role of Legolas in The Hobbit, or could his role be intended for the "bridge" movie?

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

There is no bridge movie that I am aware of being made at this point. There really doesn't need to be since the bridge between The Hobbit and LOTR is pretty much taken care of in the first 10 minutes of FotR by Galadriel's voice over.

There is the Hobbit 1 and 2 which will include the White Council story which was concurrent with The Hobbit timeline.

I thought about pointing that out but realised Woodsy would be able to come back with a lengthy detailed description of why he knew that wasn't the case and was referring to another possible bridge movie..... maybe he'll even have a clever reply to this comment too ;)

By the way, i'm only 'having a laugh' :)

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

In *your* opinion, i'm sure :)

Of course my post was my opinion. I'm the one who typed it. :slap

Though I think its pretty much fact PJ is a better director/producer than anyone attached to narnia in that same role. Though, I do enjoy the Narnia films (seeing the new one at midnight). Glad Weta is still working on the Narnia films.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I am interested to see what and how they tweak things. I'm sure there will be a Frodo sending off Sam moment (my most disliked part of the LOTR Trilogy) but there will be many great moments.

Huh?

You mean the end?

I'm more concerned about Christopher Lee. He is probably unwilling and unable to return to the role of Saruman, particularly if it's a big part requiring location shooting. It would be great to see Elrond, Galadriel, Gandalf and Radagast being led into battle by Saruman the White, but Lee might not be up to that. I really don't want to see his role recast but that seems quite probable. It's a shame, because I would love to see more of him before he switches sides and see him as the leader, with some hints and foreshadowing about his temptation and fall.

Same here. My biggest wish is that Lee does the Hobbit as his Swan Song.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Lee is definitely ancient but he's still an active actor to this day. I think it's 50/50 If we see him. He's made it clear he can't handle the travel to NZ, he'll defo not be able to handle any action scenes. So if they convince him to star, they will have to be very cute as to how the utilise him. CG, stunt doubles, filming his scenes in the U.K...
I hope he's in it. That would be the cherry right there :)

I think it could be easily done. That's basically what they did for him in the Star Wars prequels, had him say his lines on greenscreen and then mapped his face over his stunt double for the action shots. And with technology well advanced from almost a decade ago, it'd look even better than it did in SW.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

There not as far as i'm aware.

Okay. Aragorn was alive but he was only a boy of 10 years:

So if Viggo shows his face I will be all like this:

Legolas is ok though... :monkey1

Who's to say the second film wont go beyond that timeline with liberties and all then Strider could be a chance. Hopefully an announcement on the 2 big wizards shortly.

Should be good whichever way they go.:yess:

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I wonder if the end of the second movie will contain alot of "bridge material" that Peter jackson originally envisioned as a entirely separate movie. If so, Aragorn could appear, perhaps ending with him tracking Gollum.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

No i think he means that they'll do something where we go 'Wo! That's not supposed to happen! That wasn't in the books!' in a sort of Frodo sending Sam away way...

If so, Aragorn could appear, perhaps ending with him tracking Gollum.

Would be a rather lame, boring and anti-climactic ending and would have people moaning about too many endings, ala LOTR. Maybe in an EE edition though :D

:goodpost: I'm quite positive he'll be in it. It may be the last casting announcement but it'll happen...I'll possibly cry like a little girl if he doesn't make it. Lol

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

As much as I love Christopher Lee, Saruman was not in The Hobbit. If they weave him in like they do Galadriel and Legolas, then perhaps he can still star in at least one of the movies. However, if they stick to the book, he would not be in the film.

Myself and Pix will be right there with ya. Maybe we should prepare to start a support group. :lol
