... Sideshow DOES need to pick it up a bit with this license, imho. I'm still not entirely convinced they were ready for it just yet (as their hem and haw on armored characters also indicates). SW figures will never be "business as usual" for them. They should have known better than to expect SW collectors (the most demanding of all by a mile and a parsec) to accept huge heads, monkey arms, un-hemmed clothes and, most of all, a very limiting and dated base figure.

Excellent points. I suspect that SW has been like a Pandora's box, full of money and attention, that Sideshow doesn't really know what they want to do with. I think it's clear that they're making it up as they go along and I'm not getting the feeling that they're comfortable defining their role.

i'm conflicted. she's an important character. and to not have this version of her would be bad. dunno. not exactly hopeful that the production piece will change for the better any. usually if there's a change it's a downgrade

This is a pivotal figure from the vintage line and my advice would be to get it. The likeness is off but what figure HASN'T been off (Maul?). The point is they are never going to get the human characters to match their onscreen likenesses particularly well. There are always nuances and subtlties that can be nitpicked ad nauseum as we are all so good at doing here, myself in particular, but at the end of the day this is what we are given so it's take it or leave it. The burden is then upon you to customize it to your specific liking which can be fun and easy for some who have the talent, the time and the skills or a burden and frustration to those that don't. Who knows, the way that Sideshow dumps their licenses and abandons them they could very well give up on Star Wars in another year or two and what we have may be all we'll ever likely get. Could you imagine it if they didn't make a classic Vader? That would be very KURGANly of them.

SSC = So So Close in many of their attempts in different formats. Hardly ever a homerun.

Luke had a great sculpt. So did Maul and Obi-Wan and Anakin and Windu and Bib Fortuna and the green alien jedi guy and the other alien jedi guy. and jabba. I don't think you can put them on the same level as this Leia and Bespin Han. companies often do match onscreen likenesses in varying scales.

Aliens are not as difficult to realize as it is to capture someones unique portrait. Obi-Wan was close but there were so many nuances that were not right... the beard too thick, the hair part, the bushy eyebrows, the color of the paint... Anakin had problems too... the lipstick paint, the hair color, even the hair itself sculpted wrong. Mace windu was alright but was it Sammy J? Then there's the big GG screwup on the Obi-Wan... best example EVER of how a prototype can look amazing but the final production paint can be disastrous. It's either hit, miss, come close, or be WAY off the mark. That is why Hasbro was never consistent and neither is Sideshow although they are a helluva lot more consistent than Hasbro was.

Depends on who you ask. :)

Yup. I personally don't understand why everyone hates the Han sculpt so bad. I personally think its a great likeness and (as we have seen with DarkArtists repaints of Han) it is a great sculpt.

Alright I hate to do this but everyone lets breathe a little her. No the world is not ending because Leias head is a little big. Everything will be alright. Sideshow will not drop this line without doing a Vader Fett Stormies and a bunch of other armored characters Im sure of it.

By the time this line is done we will have 125 to 150 figures and this may go down as the greatest Star Wars line ever.

Everyone who has one go look at your Jabba the Hutt. You cant tell me thats the most awesome Star Wars figure ever.

After looking again at the pictures this is the best one. I dont like any of them really that look like the PF pose which is just classic.

I'll ditto that Pix. The Han figure is a pretty solid one overall.

I will most likely place my order for the exclusive, but there is something way off on the sculpt. WAY off.

Hopefully the production pix will be a little better.

As we have seen before its always downhill after the prototype!!

Lies.

Boromir, Kit Fisto, Medicom Yoda, Bib Fortuna, JABBA THE FRIGGIN HUTT!!!!!

I actually think the production Luke and Han 12" look better than the early prototype pictures as well.

Now, Anakin and Obi-Wan, on the other hand... :monkey2

Obi-Wan look fine. The hair color changed a lot from scene to scene, and the face applications were very clean and well chosen.

I'm with you Mikey, while it wasn't the proto and may be darker than some moments of the film, it is painted well and I'm very happy with him, and I'll second that Jabba is the best figure in this scale, (EVER!!!) and I think he got better from the prototype.
