For the next couple of months I work in an agency. That means, there will be only a little spare time for the hobby. On all the boards and blogs I’ll be a rare guest, I think. I also had to put a lot of my custom projects on hold. I will use the little free time to focus on the Rome project.
Never did that much research for a project. I spend days on websites, watched a lot of footage and meanwhile I own a nice little library about ancient Rome. I visided some archeological sites in Germany and spend a week in Rome for some research at the origin. The HBO Show Rome war a rich source of inspiration. Furthermore I have to name Ostia Antica and the Museo della Civiltá Romana as places that ignited my imagination.
I used the long weekend to start the project.

This is the terrain

Looking good man, make sure to keep the update pics coming....That's
if you have the spare time..lol.

You've gone to far this time. Oh, and the pic on the toilet is priceless.

What do you do with these elaborate setups once you've completed them and are bored of them?

I see this appears to be setup in a room in a house, so it's not like floor space is unlimited.

Thank you very much guys. Here is a little update to my Subura project.

I think, I will place the temple on the other end of the road in the final layout.
That's it. the main construction work is done now. Tomorrow I will start painting the 1000 pieces.

For those of you, who like to follow the Subura Project. Phase II has started. Here is the first paintjob.

I'm always impressed by the insane level of detail you put into all of your dioramas. Your historical dioramas (like this subura, or your Victorian-style sitting room used for Hitchcock, the Godfather, etc.) are extra-special treats. I've had to keep friends posted on updates to the subura. They love ancient Roman history, and love all the details you've included in this diorama. Thanks for posting all these WIP photos!

Yesterday I finished the second location. The forica is based on the forica in Ostia Antica. Most of the Grafittis were found in Pompeji. I took them from the book "Decius war hier" (Decius was here) by Karl-Wilhelm Weeber (thanks for the hint, Amithi)

Some new pictures. This building was made from styrofoam. So I used wallpapers to give it a stony look.
