Thanks for those comparison pics Vodoun, I stand corrected on the sharpness issue - I guess I just see my HT cowl more than I watch Begins!

Sometimes I wish it was softer as the DX stands out nice to some degree with the softer looking sculpt.

Maybe vodoun has some more comparison shots. :monkey3

In many ways I see the Takara in that more than the Hot Toys version, from time to time.

see! the nose! there it is! why does Bats have such a honker for a nose? :dunno

but in all seriousness, when looking over the takara i feel like the brow isn't forward enough if that makes any sense. and should be a tad sharper not as sharp as HT but just a tad sharper. that's another reason I added to the brow. in profile the face seemed too flat to me, to me it's like a creative part to add a bit more depth to the sculpt. this is just me though, the nose and neck sculpting would've been enough, but I just had to add to the brow as I wasn't getting the look I wanted with just the neck and nose sculpted. is it 100% accurate? no, but I'm happy with it :D

Here's a quick update on the Begins cowl take 2. I'm having to upload through photobucket with my phone b/c my laptop is out of commission at the moment :(

He's been painted up since these pics were taken but haven't gotten around to takin pics. Want to wait to use the good camera for those.

Did you smooth that surface out before painting? It looks a little rough in places. Or runny effects.

Well I'm not sure what the "runny effect" you're talking about is. But if you mean why it's so glossy, that's the sealer I use which also acts as a liquid sander so though it may look rough, the surface is quite smooth

Is it perfect, no...but I'm happy with it :D

On the first pic going down the base of the ear and on the second photo around the neck to below the chin. Small long round lumps.

Oh insee yea that's been dealt with. The ear split or rather cracked a bit when I took it out of the oven b/c it was so soft so I glued then sculpted over it. But not to worry, it's fine now

What did you use? does it have any flex to it for when you pop the head on or off/or say slight head turning like the film.

I used a polymer clay called FIMO. It's softer and easy to work with. But no, it's pretty solid unfortunately. But the head and neck as a whole can still turn.

I wanted to try this bendable sculpy that acts like rubber but its rather expensive. It would've worked nicely for this figure but oh well. I can always cut away all that I've sculpted and start again when I do have the money but that probably won't happen.

As long as it doesn't crack it shouldn't matter. It's just the thought of the weak part of the neck since it was originally two pieces. It would be a shame to have it all nicely painted then at some point in the future hair line cracks appear.

Oh I superglued both pieces together from the inside and on the outside. Then sanded all the excess. I tried to twist them, but it wouldnt budge so I'm quite confident that it won't crack. Then sculpted over the joint so that the two pieces now look like 1. But if worse comes to worse I'll give that bendy sculpey a try ;)

Sorry if the answer is obvious and I'm missing it, but is that new sculpt Gipetto or did you just resculpt the stock one?

If it's a brand new sculpt, any chance of you commissioning these?

It's just a resculpt of the Takara Head. Sorry bud

If I new how to cast and had the money for the casting supplies then I would cast these if there was an interest for it.

That's cool man, no problem. It does look awesome though, great job.
