How long does it take for a Zombie to die on it's own? When it's brain stem rots away?

Honestly, from a biological stand point, the original slow zombie would never happen, I don't think such a thing could exist. Once the blood stops flowing there isn't much time left for the few living cells that remain.

The 28 days later "zombies" could exist though

what use is blood if the heart don't move or there is no heart at all? or are u saying these zombie have and need a functioning heart?

Cell, blood, what runs your zombie in your fiction aside, in reality, Zombies would be a non-threat after about 6 hours due to rigor mortis. They simply couldn't use their muscles to move and if they did manage movement anyway somehow, they snap their legs off pretty quickly.

Jaws one of the first things to go too if I'm not mistaken.

:exactly: the idea of ,wolverine zombies, with regenerative cells that don't need blood is good for a fantasy setting

SPACE ZOMBIES! :lol that guy is awesome

one would assume that once the moisture/liquid dried off, em zombies wouldn't be able to move much and thus die off. so the formula includes the humility, temperature, sunlight, density of the skin/skull, and any damage to say the skin/skull. this doesn't factor in other entity as fly, maggots, cockroach, and such. once they get new flesh, assuming they're not dry--cause why would zombie eat dry, dead meat?, zombie can regenerate fast. and the cycle repeats. unlike living humans, a fat zombie is a healthy zombie.

So...if the zombies are humble they'll die off sooner? :monkey3

What's hilarious is thinking of the idea of a zombie actually reanimating.

No memory right? And no muscle memory. So unlike a toddler/baby, they'd have muscle but wouldn't know how to use it properly. They go into full sprints and have no idea how to stop. Then the rigor sets in their face first and they wouldn't be able to open their eyelids. So you'd have blind zombies running at full speed into walls with no balance. :lol

Would be hilariously terrifying.

Unless the heart is destroyed or removed, it would remaining functioning. Its a muscle. It wouldn't make sense for that one muscle to stop operating but every other muscle (ie arms, legs, jaw, etc) would all remain functioning. The heart wouldn't be necessary for a zombie to function as it doesn't need the oxygen the pumping of blood through the body creates. Only the brain is needed for a zombie to remain functioning, which is why a severed head will remain animated. I know its stupid arguing over the 'science of zombies' but based on the 'rules' it would seem to make sense that the heart still beats.

have to disagree on that. only part that matters is the brain. everything else is basically dead reanimated matter. if we say the heart still beats then one can go as far as say the lung still breathe and the next thing we know, these zombies have heat and breathe and feel pain and this and that. then its ok for Hershel and the Governor to have these zombies around as they're still people. they're the undead, reanimated, that's why they walk awkward. their brains is only good enough for rudimentary/basic function. its all horrific fantasy.

Why would their legs still functions to walk around with then? That would be picking and choosing which muscles still function. I would imagine all of them would be functioning until destroyed. We've seen zombies breathe and bleed on the show so its not all that far fetched to assume everything is running at some capacity until something gets in the way of that - damage or rot or whatever. Those are basic, non conscious actions the body naturally does. As zombies are minimal thinkers at best, I would think those same non conscious actions we've had since birth would still function as before. Obviously there is something different going on with the body as it died and reanimated, but I just don't see things being shut off randomly. If they don't need to breathe to function, then maybe the lungs would just stop taking in air. If there isn't blood to pump, maybe the heart would stop beating. But as long as their isn't some outside influence, it would seem reasonable to assume everything would continue to run as normal. We know they can still hear. And we know they can still see, at least until their eyes are removed or destroyed. Those are basic, non conscious actions we've always had (any disabilities excluded, of course) :dunno

Funny enough, at SDCC there was a girl in a wheelchair that asked why we don't see any zombies with disabilities. Gimple was clever enough to point out some stuff at the retirement home episode that may have been disabled zombies, but I think they were all just too polite to admit that people with disabilities would likely be the first to go as they'd prove to be an easier meal for the zombies. :lol

they're zombies. they don't need functional organs, parts. once the person die, everything cease to live as we know it. their muscles just reanimated to work and take movement command from the brains. sure they still have to obey the law of physics(gravity, etc) and biology to some point but they are not required to function normally. that's why u see decapitated zombie head still reanimated; burned zombie; missing limb zombie; etc. still moving. kina like a dead frog that can still move its leg if a small electrical charge is place to the leg muscle. probably better that the heart doesn't pump blood or they'll be drained dry.

Damn Rick looks badass lately. Need a figure of that that isn't destroyed by ****** paint apps. Wish HT would get the license since Threezero are missing all the hype.
