Works for me. There are many more interesting characters that still have not been introduced yet that can more than fill the shoes of a Shane or a Lori or a Dale character.

The only characters I've found to be stupid is Dale.... He's holding on to an old world thought process... having said that It'd be cool for him to learn the hard way... and LORI... who apparently can't drive without wrecking. However she too is showing her machiavellian side and getting all Lady MacBeth on Rick. Im glad Rick hasn't totally listened.

I really like Dale's character in the comic. Don't find him that annoying in the show either.
My extreme dislike list consists of Andrea and Lori. Shane's actually more tolerable in the show than he was in the comic.

I think Dale serves a purpose. He's wrong. He's stuck in the wrong time. But, its probably good to have a touchy-feely guy around to help keep people from going ...
