Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC ( Spoilers!!)

I was laughing as well but I considered the source and flipped a coin on if you actually knew what a colloquial saying was. I was wrong this time.

Even then, it's not correct. It would have had to be something more like, "the assassination of Rick" or the less poetic "the death of Rick." Suicide doesn't really fit that unless it was Rick who dragged Shane out to kill him and succeeded. That said, a substantial part of Rick did die that night alongside Shane.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC ( Spoilers!!)

It's absolutely correct. Suicide by cop is already a colloquial saying and by substituting cop with Rick it's even more so. That's why I didn't read it that way. I thought you were saying it was suicide by Rick going out there, or suicidal of Rick. I was just interpreting it the wrong way.

Stop being so colloquial dude. The colloquiality of your colloquialness is definitely choding the colloquial.

:lecture:lecture:lecture Wofford fubar'd his Word of the Day. :exactly: :lol

An example of a "colloquial" statement would be, "Shane is sick as hell!" inferring he's actually awesome and not ill by utilizing "sick" as common slang. "Suicide by Rick" is self explanatory and does not rely on common understanding of slang to realize the statement's meaning.

I know you'll never admit you're wrong, despite being so, but you do know that slang and a colloquial phrases are two completely different things? Suicide by cop is an actual colloquial phrase, in fact I'm about 99% positive it's defined as such, you're example of sick as hell is slang.

Erm wofford... I think a quick trip to dictionary.com might do you some good. :lol

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC ( Spoilers!!)

Yes how very interesting. Your link proves nam's point. "Suicide by cop" is self descriptive and correct english.. ie not a colloquialism. :dunno

(this is a fascinating topic :sleep)

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC ( Spoilers!!)

Here are some more colloquialisms (eyeroll) to tantalize the brain:

Death by boredom
Love by chapped blistered hand
Pooped on by giant poop stache ... :dunno

Your post is oxymoronic. "Suicide by Rick" is exactly what it says. There's no slang involved in the phrase and therefore does not even qualify as being "colloquial."

col·lo·qui·al [kuh-loh-kwee-uhl] adjective

1. characteristic of or appropriate to ordinary or familiar conversation rather than formal speech or writing; informal.

2. involving or using conversation.

Just accept that you're wrong so you don't embarrass yourself any more than you already have. :wink1:
