Well, that was embarrassing to watch lol. They shouldn’t invite him back. And based off what he said in his speech makes it all the more humiliating. He should’ve let it slide. These public figures should be used to getting targeted. Whether it’s from the media, fans or their fellow actors, comedians, etc. Unfortunately, that comes with being a public figure. And anyway, Will and Jada aren’t super private about their personal lives, what did he expect? People are too sensitive these days.

It used to be Jack Nicholson sitting in the front row. Then Clooney. Now its Will Smith?

Where's George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Meryl Streep, Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts, Johnny Depp, Leo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Harrison Ford... do any heavy hitters that don't have a movie out even go to this anymore? They used to.
I thought I saw Damon in a reaction collage, but it was a long shot.

You used to see everyone at the Oscars... now you're talking 'maybe' in a long shot?

Oscars ain't what it used to be.

Next year's gonna be...

Oscar Smackdown!!!

Who's gonna slap who? Tune in and find out!

At least folks like Smith, Denzel, SLJ, Pacino, Deniro and the such still show up. But in the current age there are no superstars. The last crop of stars were the Goslings and the Gyllenhaals. And I don't think they reached the Cruise/DiCaprio/Pitt/Depp/Clooney status. Zoomer stars are Zendaya, Momoa and I guess Chalamet.

And they're most definitely not even in the Goose tier, let alone being the new Depps.

True. Twink Chalamet is appealing to nuHollywood as he must.

I hope he outgrows that.
Honestly, he's got chops and an interesting look. He's a confirmed 5'11" (there's a site about celeb heights and the guy who runs it is very "obsessed") so while not tall he's better than most actors, has wide enough backs and so on. He could transition into more "manly" roles as time goes on, though for the time being he's THE Hollywood twink.

Call Me By Your Name was honestly pretty beautiful, so just by that I try to keep tabs on him. I know he's said he won't do capeflicks, but I think he'd make a great Kristoff Vernard, or Young Ultimate Doom.

I'd bet he does. He's leaning into that youthful androgyny thing right now -- that won't last forever.
I think he's going to try and pull a DiCaprio. Ride his twinkish looks as far they take him, and then go for more traditional roles. At the same time he tries to fill that Depp niche too of the dark-haired quasi-scrawny weirdo.

From the youngest crop, he's the one with some actual chops and a way to go. Him and Saoirse.

She should be Irulan over Pugh... On a sidenote, Little Women was a very comfy film.

OK here’s my question when did the Oscars actually transition into a show where they mix celebrating cinema with career achievements AND a comedy roast?

Seems like a weird marriage right, a presenter on stage roasting people who the academy are rewarding for their professional achievements which for some is a life journey.

Like is that an actual rule in the Academy we are going to reward you for your work BUT you have to be roasted?

Was that weird marriage there from the beginning?

I think they realized that the general population no longer worships these morally bankrupt weirdos and no longer had an interest in watching them fawn over each other.

It’s like I’m picturing a football, baseball or hockey team coming up to get their Super Bowl rings, World Series trophy or Stanley Cup and all of a sudden the announcer says to them “Your mama is so fat!” :rotfl

Weird right that’s what i’m trying to figure out.

Even though the public can have those feelings towards those hollyweird people you’re right but within their self-contained world I’m surprised they interrupt their achievements and award with continuous roasting.

But then again they are clapping for Will Smith and Roman Polanski they literally are celebrating violence and child ****! :slap
