Damn, I hate Walmart. The people, the store, I just can't stand it. Most people are rude, never say excuse me and seem to lack any kind of manners and it doesn't help that I feel closed in at that place.
It feels like Pacman or some game trying to maneuver to stay out of people's way only to be bombarded with MORE people around the aisle corners.

I know this is a Love thread but I hate Wallmart. They are one of the things that is actually ruining this country. Driving all the other stores out of business that don't have the leverage to tell China to make their products for $0.02 so that they can sell it here for $8.00. If Wallmart has their way they will be the only store in this country.

You have to blame the customers too though. People in general would rather have a $4 Chinese laundry hamper than a $20 American made one. Walmart caters to what their customers want.
This is a bad thing?
As far as China making everything cheaper...Wal-Mart is a world away from the only store that benefits from that. Take a look at every tag on every item in every store and you will find every retailer dominated by Chinese product. But that will be a short-lived aggravation. Production costs are already going up there to the point where some Companies are starting to doubt the benefits of outsourcing there. I read that a few companies are already making plans to bring manufacturing back to the States (called re-shoring).
It's happening in Mexico too. A big company in my town had planned on shutting down and completely moving to Mexico. They had moved a few lines down there and the product is coming back so ____ty, that they're actually losing the money they planned on saving, so right now they're debating on moving things back here, or still taking the rest of the plant down there. Some are saying though they may move just long enough to bust the union, then move back. They only make $12 to $14 an hour here now, so I doubt they'll get good product moving back here after the union is gone.
You get what you pay for in most cases.
I read an article that estimated the benefit of manufacturing in China to be as low as 5% right now.
However, I do disagree that unions shops make better products. I am an inspector and I have to visit both union and non-union shops and although mine is a different industry (construction, not retail), what I see tells me that quality is basically equivelant overall, but is determined more by individuals working in the shops than by whether they are union or not. And production seems to be more expensive in union shops due to the added costs of the extra hoops that have to be jumped through to make mid-production changes. And it seems to me to be reasonable to believe that those aspects would be similar between industries.
