Pretty much. He left the desk unattended when I didn't walk through the door before 11:05. He basically walked out.
In the past, he's thrown full blown tantrums. Last winter, I got stuck behind a line of cars doing 25mph in the middle of a snowstorm. With few opportunities to pass them, the car at the head of the line kept speeding up whenever I had a chance. In the end, I had to do 55mph to get around him, risking my life, but cutting a good 20 minutes off the drive. When I called the guy to tell him I'd be a couple minutes late (what turned out to be 3 minutes) he hung up on me (slammed the phone) and as I walked through the door, he threw a keyboard, kicked a bunch of stuff, etc. Turns out he was staying at the hotel that night because the weather was more than he wanted to risk driving in.
I never did get an apology for that. This past night, I had a hard time with slow traffic again, and did 70mph several times to make up for it. I'm actually driving without a license currently, so if I had been pulled over, I'd have been arrested. On both occasions, I was doing what I could to protect my boss (who I like a lot) from having to deal with his derangement. He had gone off on her in the past (woke her up in the middle of the night to yell at her) and I made it a point to avoid a repeat of that.
Behold my lacks of ****s given that he is now unemployed. I wish him an illustrious career at McDonald's.
