One of my foundest child hood memories as a kid was at the Memphis Zoo on a empty day and one of the Rhinos was standing under this little balcony in their exhibit and I laid down and reached in there and started scratching his back. He began to actually lean into my hand so I could scratch more and I could here him breathing. Wonderful experience that was....

Cool! In Dublin zoo theres no touching of the animals (probably wise) except the regular farm animals. I'm sure it was nice to have a bond with a Rhinoceras, however temporary.

Reminds me of the particular bonds I have with my 3 dogs. One of my westies loves his back scratched. It triggers nerve reactions in his legs, they twitch maniacally, he loves it. The other westie actively seeks me out to be lifted up, carried around and to sit on my lap. Lastly my Shih tzu loves me to animate her teddies like they are real dogs and she wrestles with them. Its nice to have these things since I'm not the feeder or the walker.

Hahaha I love those types of dogs. Westies are awesome.
Also at this Zoo there was absolutely no touching of the animals except when you can feed the giraffes and a few other types. There is normally the giant ditch separating the animals from the people but in the Rhino exhibit there was a small balcony(I'm guessing it is used by the keepers for something) that hangs over a small portion of their pen and it had opening small enough in the bars for me to reach my 11 year old arm through to scratch the Rhino's back.

That better be in addition to my regular one, not instead of! and never mind about the steak, I hate steak!

edit - I'm rhetorically addressing my G/F by the way, not Thrifty!

I'm glad you cleared that up - because that was becoming more info than I really wanted to know. :lol
