Oh, man.

SquiderM3 - Where are you coming from? Where is home?

If you are from the midwest, stay the hell away from In-n-Out Burger. I am humiliated every time a fellow mid-westerner is tortured at that place. If you are from the midwest, you have experienced hamburgers made with GOOD beef. You will be hard pressed to find that in California, even at McD's or BK. And In-n-Out Burger knows this and tries to hide the nasty flavor of the hamburger by charring them to a crisp and smothering them with thousand island dressing.

I have been in CA for 22 years and I lost the stomach to figure out why that place is so popular with native Californians after about the first year.

On the other hand...I hear that there are In-N-Outs spreading East of Cali. If you find one on the road in a state known for good beef, try it there. THAT might be OK if you tell them to hold the Thousand Island dressing.

:D

:rotfl:rotfl:rotfl

Seems you may be banished from the state after these comments.

Cruel, you are dead to me.

I agree and he should be immediately kicked out of the state. Not to mention Zagat rated In N out as best fast food burger.

Lately I have been controlling myself better when talking about In-n-Out.

I backslid.:D

One thing I have learned well while living in Cali...you don't disparrage In-n-Out.

There's a lot to hate about In-N-Out. The parking lots in LA are nightmares. Total nightmares, especially the one in Culver City. They are so often overcrowded. Sometimes you have to share a table with strangers. Sometimes tables are non-existent. They all need larger dining areas and larger parking areas. And they need to open more restaurants. Gotta drive through dense city traffic at dinner time to get to one. Plus they put bible scripture on the bottom of the fries and hidden on the cups. I don't need to be preached to subliminally while I'm trying to enjoy a tasty burger.

But their food is hands down the best. Mmmm Gotta get me a double double, no salt, protein style, animal style, ketchup and mustard instead...:drool

We used to have a lunch-truck driver who would show his appreciation for our business by loading his truck with double doubles on Christmas eve and giving them out for free...as many as you wanted.

I always passed.

And there is absolutely no doubt that In-n-Out is super popular.

I am just confused by that fact.

Edit - gdb - The In-n-Out on the 15 freeway at Main Street Hesperia up here in the high desert is not usually THAT busy...not the greatest location...but a good one to stop at if you passing through and want to avoid the normal crowd.

Pink's is a MUST!!! Do not leave L.A. before you have eaten there! :rock

Golden Apple is right across the street and Meltdown comics is about a mile away.

Oh yeah...I forgot about that! :D

If you are from the midwest, stay the hell away from In-n-Out Burger.

:horror :horror :horror

You have to remember that some of these locations are old and were only a drive in when they started and my have a few tables outside but this place was designed as a drive thru. Have you ever been to the original one, talk about small. They have open more in last maybe 10 years then they did in all years before that. I remember when there was no In-n-out besides LA, OC, and the IE. None is SD, none up north.

I am in now way religious but I don't see how anyone can have an issue with have passage on the items in a pretty much hidden location, come on you purposely look at it it not like its in your face. A religious family started and to this days still owns the company, take better care of there employees then most jobs (I am not just talking fast food) so if they want to place a passage on the cups, containers, and wrappers in very inconspicuous spots its not a big deal. Hell it seems like you didnt know the wrappers (both hamburger and double double) have passages on them too.

Yup, I'll take In-N-Out over Jack's, McD's, Carl's (sometimes) and Burger King anytime.

There are plenty of upper scale restaurants like Island's for example, who make KICK ASS burgers, but it's not fast and it's not as cheap as INO.

You should compare those other burgers to In-N-Out's and I'm sure you will tell the difference

i like in n out..

Tell that to my Jewish step-mother. She's been hounded by evangelicals and anti-science types in Texas for so many years that any Christian thing in an inappropriate place sends her into a post traumatic stress flashback. And not knowing the chapter and verses by heart, when I see the dog whistles I can only imagine that they link up to the passages that condone slavery or how one must repent or spend all eternity in hell or how King David has a heck of a guy or some such nonsense.

As for their history, all I know is that it's time to upgrade their locations and open up new ones. Hell, they should buy up some locations across from every existing McDonald's and open up an In'N'Out.

What do you guys think of the La Brea Tar Pits? I haven't been there yet.

boring. its just a black pond. But if you are there visit LACMA or Peterson's automotive museum. or swing by the farmer's market a few blocks north.

re In N Out, I think my favorite location is the one next to LAX. eating at night and watching airplane landing right over your head is a pretty unique experience. Though it is pretty crowded most of time.

Sorry why would your Jewish Mom seek out Bible passages hidden on packages? Who sits and looks at the inside lip of of the bottom of a paper cup. There are so many people that never ever know that those are there unless someone points it out. Curious what they are I found this for you.

That In and Out is insane. I think it is one of busiest ones they have.

I've never seen that, I'm too busy stuffing my face with burger and fries to give a ^^^^ about what's written on a wrapper or a cup.

Good article. I am not religious, but those passages are pretty well-used in my own opinion.

Unfortunately that article contains information that, if it is true, dashes my hope of finding an In-n-Out that uses good, corn-fed beef. This California tofu-fed stuff just does not shine.

Hey guys,

I'll be heading down to Southern California at the end of September for two weeks and was hoping to get some advice on things to do/see and what tourist traps to avoid from local residents and/or people who have vacationed there. So far on the schedule is Disneyland, Dodgers vs Giants, Chargers vs Dolphins, San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park and Seaworld.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just chiming in here:

Yah, Wild Animal Park is better than zoo, but check the temperatures when you're here-- WAP is at least 10-20 degrees warmer than zoo, and Sept is a warmer month down here. You don't want to go to the WAP if the temp is 90+ (not sure what that'd be in Celsius, 35 or so?)

If you visist the Gaslamp in SD, you MUST go to the Field. It's an Irish pub that was disassembled piece by piece in Ireland, brought to SD, and reasssembled. Rumor has it that waitresses are Irish lasses brought over from the olde country on work-study visas...

If you go to In and Out, do some web research beforehand so you can order from the secret menu. In and Out has a whole bunch of things you can order that are not listed anywhere on their menus. Trust me on this.

Haven't been there, but my next trip to/through LA I will be going to Randy's Donuts near LAX. I have no clue what their donuts taste like, I want to go there just because
they filmed some scenes from Iron Man 2 there.
. DC fans might want to skip.

The 2 ball games should be cool, none of those teams like each other very much.

Oh, and I thought the La Brea tar pits were WAY cool. Bones from mammoths, saber toothed tigers, etc.. When we were there a bird landed in a tar pit and got stuck. A few thousand years from now some archeologist will pull it out again.

tasted just like any other donut. :D

If you happen to be there, try it. But I would not recommend making a special trip just to go there for their eatable donut.

Old Town in San Diego was pretty cool (if you want to soak up some Mexican culture or just a lot of margaritas).
