*Druish Princess*

Because it's easy to cherry-pick posts to make your arguments look better to others.

She won't go toe-to-toe with those offering cogent, rational thoughts.

Look at your two post to date in this thread. They consist either of clapping for someone else, with no added content of your own, or projecting ad hominems at me.

You sneer at me for not taking up what you subjectively deem "cogent, rational thoughts" whilst you have conspicuously failed to develop even one substantive thought of your own on the subject of women in the hobby. I mean that first post was a cut-and-paste and four emoticons...you must have read English at university.

It's because you go on your worthless crusades all over this board and it becomes tiresome.

Also, you must have an agenda against ink (mod). The "God Hates Cowards" line must have really gotten under your skin. Why didn't you take it up with him via PMs? Instead, you went on an anger fueled, rambling diatribe.

Most people on this board see through your bs. If this place pains you so much, I'm sure there's a message board available at the National Organization for Women website.

So you have no original thoughts of your own to develop or share because of what an awful person I am for having the audacity to publicly voice my opinion on subjects? Mkay.

And wow, I am glad to see ink has a mighty champion since he is too cowardly to do much more than sneer at me and run away. Perhaps you can go to the Lance Armstrong thread and address ink's mysterious silence now that Armstrong has confessed to the cheating.

Edit:
By the way sociologist have studied the phenomenon of women being perceived as dominating a conversation by those present even when we objectively contributed less than men and less than our proportionate share. In other words we are shrill, domineering *****es just for voicing our opinions at all.

I have fewer than 1,900 post in almost four years, which is a far lower out put than a large chunk of the core membership and yet look at your pathetic, disproportionate anger at me. And you are not alone, Bad Moon and Nilitusk come to mind as having become particularly infuriated by my daring to have opinions that differ from their own. Do contrary views really threaten you that much?

Best post I have seen on these boards in a very, very long time. I love trolling the Sandbox because of the childish, inane, and downright silly posts people put.

I put Starpuff on ignore a very long time ago because of her diatribes, but I think the sheer level of her hypocrisy in making this thread is astonishing considering that she is a member of a message board dedicated to a company that has a history of making statues that objectify women.

Where does it say in my previous post that you're an awful person? Point it out please.

You're certainly entitled to your opinions and I'm entitled to rip you for yours.

Why would I want to post in the Armstrong thread when I've known that he's been a cheat all along?

You deflected my question. Why didn't you PM ink with your issues instead of going on a public rant?

Really?

"worthless crusades"
"tiresome"
"anger fueled, rambling diatribe"
"your bs"

Plus all of your anger at me in the Penn State (and probably some other) thread, for example:

Get a clue Star Puffs and GTFO!

Seriously, how many board members does it take to shout you down?

...but you think I am a fine person deep down.

You anger at me on a personal level is blindingly obvious.

To expose him as a person too cowardly (or too stupid if you prefer) to defend his actions. The guy can barely write two sentences and as expected he just dodges any challenge put to his little tough-guy persona.

***

Anyway it was a mistake to respond to you. You have offered nothing original on the actual topic, just but personal vitriol directed at me. If my views make you this angry, for your own sake I advise you put me on ignore.

What's this thread about again?

Why do you care so much Star Puffs?

I thought the sandbox was supposed to be fun.

Really?

"worthless crusades"
"tiresome"
"anger fueled, rambling diatribe"
"your bs"

Did you notice a trend with the above four things. It's your arguments that are awful, not you as a person. Yes, there's a difference. I know, it may come as a shock to you.

Did you cherry-pick those comments too out of the "Paterno/Penn State" thread before you got it shut down? I don't know how to break it to you but I agreed with your points and clearly pointed it out on a particular post.

Personal vitriol? You act like I'm foaming at the mouth. Good grief, this is a toy message board and it seems you're the one getting all worked up about it.

What's this thread about again?

Objectifying and misogynistic aesthetics in the hobby.

Why do you care so much Star Puffs?

Because I am a woman who otherwise loves 1:6 figures. Would you ask an ethnic minority why they "care so much" about racist imagery? Prejudices and negative imagery wear on people.

Why do you challenge me and not people who hate my opinion so much they post over and over again in this thread?

I thought the sandbox was supposed to be fun.

A mod moved in here from General Collectibles, not my doing. It makes no difference to me.

Objectifying and misogynistic aesthetics in the hobby.

Generalization. For every one picture like the one you posted there are 10,000 that are nothing like that. And most of the time when a shot like that gets posted it get made fun of. Take some time and go to the Collection forum and see how few and far between those pieces are. You're taking issue with something that is so vastly the minority here and acting as if it rules every forum and every thread within. It doesn't. Its no more of an issue here then it is in toothpaste commercials. If you look hard enough you can find anything anywhere. Under a microscope everything looks big.

And more people would agree with you and probably support you if you did post from your ivory tower. If you didn't post like the stereotype of an angry feminist the backlash won't be so bad.

You can be a powerful woman without being self righteous and preachy.

I think there's more to it than that. This isn't the first controversial topic you've brought up and chimed in on, is it?

The guy made a harmless custom figure. I looked at that thread, saw the pics and thought nothing of it. I literally didn't give it two seconds of thought nor did I feel the need to comment on it. How something like that bothers you is beyond me. I doubt most women would take that personally. It's a custom doll depicting a "sexy" Black Widow as Iron Man or whatever. Sure, it's not practical, but I don't think there's any ill will or negative intent behind it. I mean, misogynist? Surely you know how you sound? The guy made a stupid custom "idealized" doll, I've seen a ton of em, male and female characters. Ever seen a pin up girl or other art, how about the Rambo and Arnold customs that "objectify" gun toting, war dudes? Who gives a crap? :lol

You've taken it too far, I'm sure you know this unless you're looking for problems. If you're going to compare that to "racist imagery", I think you have a problem. I don't see Jen or Ween or any of the other women that contribute on these boards having such issues, you come across as a crazy feminist or something. You seem to seek out controversial topics and post debates in a forum geared towards toys and collectibles. If that bothers you and you think it's the bane of this hobby, well, I think you need a new hobby.

Wow, wow, wow. You broke character to actually make a sincere, well-written comment. I have to admit I feel totally obliged to reply.

Is it a majority problem? Of course not, nor did I suggest otherwise. Yet it is not quite as rare as you suggest. As several people noted, the Japanese market is absolutely saturated with stuff in this vein, which in turn influences the rest of Asian pop culture. Triad and Phichen are heavily invested in this aesthetic. Sideshow dabbles at it, even messing with totally inappropriate targets like Willow from Buffy. Enterbay seemed to be headed there with its 'girlfriend' line or whatever the hell that is supposed to be.

Fortunately Hot Toys has not gone there, at least not that I can recall.

And most of the time when a shot like that gets posted it gets made fun of.

Except it got exclusively praise before I came along in its original thread, which was in the main Marvel section, not one word of derision or censure.

And more people would agree with you and probably support you if you did post from your ivory tower. If you didn't post like the stereotype of an angry feminist the backlash won't be so bad.

Well again the complete lack of criticism suggests otherwise, whereas the second I post this thread it draws lightning.

What you consider "self righteous and preachy" I consider being simply condescending and sarcastic as fits a negative attitude towards my target, something certain people might recognise in their own modus operandi. If you consider me, who is considered a very marginal feminist by actual "angry feminists" then I stand no chance of ever addressing this subject in a suitable fashion.

Anita Sarkeesian drew a firestorm of personal abuse for simply announcing she was going to talk about misogynistic tropes in video games, before she actually published any videos. So forgive me if I cannot take your focus on my tone and posture particularly seriously, in fact it sounds a bit paternalistic. Think of how many negative words we have in our language specifically for women with an unwelcome opinion:

shrew
harpy
shrill
hysterical
ball-breaker
nag
b***h
witch

Your paragraph above is one long, running act of smug, paternalistic condescension. You as a man are telling me as a woman how I should behave and react to depictions of women by men. That is every bit as bad as white person telling a minority how they ought to feel about racism.

The "I think you need a new hobby" line is typical of the way my views do not just arouse disagreement, but deeply threaten some of you. It would be better if I was just gone. And of course you point to women who you feel are behaving in the proper manner, not disrupting your little club.

I think there's more to it than that. This isn't the first controversial topic you've brought up and chimed in on, is it?

No it is not, but there are multiple board members who routinely bring up their emphatically-stated dislikes about the hobby and they do not have people raging at them with quite the personal fervour I inspire in a select group. There are also plenty of people who drop in social and political views constantly, some getting threads locked on a regular basis as a result.

I am sure you will claim it is something uniquely awful about me or my opinions, but the fact remains I am a rare woman on this site who speaks up similarly to the more opinionated male members. And a small core of you seem to hate me for it.

If this were about my opinion and not my gender, you would also address the people who agree with me in similar terms, but that does not happen. A man who agrees with me should be no less "ugly" or an "angry feminist" than I am. Go call a few of them that and see where it gets you.

Women in general are rare on this site I'm sorry to say but I wouldn't say peeps are questioning you because of your gender Star Puffs. In fact I remember reading in a few of your last 'discussions' that some did not realise you were female until you made it known.

The pic you posted doesn't bother me. Some collector chooses to mix and match and make what is imo a very silly figure cetainly does not upset me and I would definately not catagorize it as it being 'everything wrong with this hobby'.. People will collect what they will and while I don't understand or even like some of these pieces, especially some of the anime/pvc stuff that comes out, in fact I find those incredibly creepy. I still wouldn't say that those pieces are what's wrong with the 'hobby'.
The hobby is collecting, be it a figure dressed in a head to toe full 3pc suit or a guy in a speedo (Donald Duck ones for Dorkie ;)), or in this case a mix of a female fig with IM suit.

I don't actually think that there is one thing that can be put down as a reason for 'everything wrong in the hobby' and to be honest I haven't given it that much thought as I enjoy collecting. I don't see the point in picking at things that are wrong with a hobby I enjoy so much, there's no fun in that , imo.

At the end of the day this hobby is for fun and if some saddo gets their kicks from collecting those kind of extreme figs, that's up to them, it certainly won't bother or affect me as I woman. Don't get me wrong I don't like looking at them but then I don't have to as I'm not collecting them.
I collect what I like as I'm sure eveyone here does and we all like different things. This hobby would be very boring if we all collected the same stuff.

I've seen the 'objectification of women' in far worse ways than a statue/collectable.

Just my opinion anyway.

Aren't you white? And aren't you telling me, a minority, how I ought to feel about racism? You don't speak for me, and you don't speak for my Chinese, Indian or African siblings. Please refrain.
