After that massacre in Texas yesterday Skurge’s line in Thor 3 of getting his guns in Tex..as and the name he gave them takes on a whole new meaning..yikes.

Disney must be “doh” right about now while they’re rolling in the money that is lol

So happy I didn’t pay for that which would’ve had to include my wife and son.

I had a feeling the IW trailer wasn’t going to be shown there.

Was the swag at least any good.

IMO the swag sucked at least for the event I went to. Compared to Rogue One which wasn't even an event and came home w. a metal bucket and cup w. a Darth Vader topper vs. a coin? and a plastic cup.

But second Regal viewing no plastic cups so I guess I own something special now after all.

I'd already cheated and found out about no IW trailer ahead of time. Overall the "fan event" wasn't an "event" IMO but whatever; loved the movie and didn't have to deal w. Friday crowds.

Liked it more in IMAX 2D than the regular 3D on my first watch. As usual for me some of the rough edges were smoothed out, some of the good aspects got better, but this is still not the Thor movie I wanted.

I can come to final conclusion when I watch it with my girl's brother-in-law tomorrow (promised I'd go with him even if I hated it after round 2), as yesterday's viewing was pretty tainted

You're gonna fall asleep.

You weren't ****tin'! Almost a bottle of wine plus food-coma. Even the coffee couldn't save me. I was nodding out the first hour till I got my second wind.

Did anyone get any new trailers with their screening..just curious if they showed any new JL or TLJ trailers

Both trailers played but nothing newer than what's currently online

See Clown has business sense.

After the box office abd RT% of this movie NO WAY in hell will Feige use Strange’s time stone to reverse ANYTHING!

Reverse it to what the poor box office performance and mediocre RT% of TDW, nope!

This new Thor formula worked they’re keeping it.

This is exactly what I'm afraid of. The path this paves for the future. Makes me fear for this character going forward, makes me fear for Antwan/Wasp and Spidey 2.

It feels like when something works, the studio thinks it's a brilliant idea to double down and OD on it. "Wow Guardians was a hit! They loved the tone and visuals! Let's do it again but MORE and BIGGER and BETTER and MORE!"

That's why I'm praying the alternative opinions start to overcome this initial slew of acceptance for the slapstick turn the franchise has taken. The voice is out there but it's being drowned out right now. A lot of the tweets against the comedy overload were meet by Taika responded crap like "sounds like this guy needs to laugh a little".

If this takes a 60%+ drop on weekend 2, that's when the anti-comedy crowd will have the stage

You got a cup??? All we got (AMC) was that lanyard with the cardboard graphic card and the coin

*Sad*. Yeah, the cup and coin was part of the bloated "event" price. Srsly I was expecting more, a mini poster that I could use in back of my HT figs on the shelf. Cheap, cheap. Also the "Noovio" or whatever that replaced "First Look" (e.g. forced commercials on a trapped audience) seems EXACTLY like "First Look" (forced commercials on a trapped audience:cuckoo:).

Agree with this. IMO it's a "fatal" mistake too. Fail, fail, fail. IMO one thing for a director to have a particular style; another for a director or studio to decide if something works, more is better. For me GOTG2 was a classic example of that w. dancing Groot. Seeing the cute toddler Groot eating M & Ms for me was funny enough. Toddler Groot is funny enough. Didn't need to open the film with him dancing - for me it was overkill.

Meanwhile, at least in the UK:

UK box office: 'Murder On The Orient Express' derails 'Thor: Ragnarok'

Despite generally middling reviews, Murder On The Orient Express arrived top of the UK box office on debut.

Fox’s adaptation of the Agatha Christie classic posted a healthy non-final UK bow of $6.5m (£4.9m) from its 624 sites, delivering Sir Kenneth Branagh’s best Fri-Sun tally as director, ahead of Cinderella’s $5m (£3.8m).

Thor: Ragnarok might have been dethroned, but can be happy with a respectable 36% drop (excluding previews) on its way to a $6m (£4.6m) second weekend.

Disney’s latest Marvel offering has now fought to $27.3m (£20.8m) in the UK, making it the biggest Thor outing to date, ahead of Thor: The Dark World’s $26.4m (£20.13m).

In terms of overall Marvel films, Thor: Ragnarok is already the tenth highest-grossing film and will soon overtake Iron Man 2 ($27.8m/£21.18m) and Doctor Strange ($30.4m/£23.2m).
Kinda surprised but the U.S. may feel differently about Orient Express e.g. been done before.

So I'll finally chip in here as I wanted to avoid spoilers as much as possible but after all the trailers they really did show a while lot of the best action. But spoilers will follow.

I hear you all (and echo it as well) saying this film should have been more serious and darker. This is a doomsday tale, or at least it should have been. I hated that I enjoyed the "fun" of this film because I wanted the true reeling from a proper Ragnarok film.

Thor wasn't the regal character he was by the end of the first movie and Avengers. I don't mind some of the humor, Hemsworth is indeed talented enough to pull it off, but not at the expense of the character please. The haircut reaction was one of those moments.

Enough people died in this movie that it should have had some weight on the plot. Especially the warriors three and the entire army. Thor literally showed no concern in ehat happened to his "best and most loyal" friends. Lady sif? Was she just written out of existence? The movie was a gag reel and it glossed over things that could have had the heart needed to help balance this movie out.

I thought Hela was great actually, but would have liked to see her less like Neo and more like a sorceress just ripping souls out of men's bodies effortlessly. Her true power is not in her fighting ability but her gifts of the supernatural. Bummed she died though...

Having said all that, I'm partly ashamed to say I enjoyed the ride. But once the jokes aren't funny anymore, how will this movie hold up? I thought the laughs were setup way better in this than GotG2 (which felt overly forced and adolescent compared to the first one), so the film succeeded in that sense for me. I was definitely highly entertained, but I wanted some of it to be darker and not be an extension of GotG.

Props to Hemsworth though. Thought Jeff goldblum was pretty good as well BUT reminds me too much of Del Toro's the Collector.

Fenrir was cool. The mid credit scene was awesome. Not sure if I want to see Loki be a good guy or antihero but I understand the movie universe wanting to show character change that we may not get in the comic verse but I'm sure the next movie they'll force amother twist with him smh.

A quick scene at the end on the escape ship mourning the deaths of Asgard’s defense forces and warrior 3 would’ve been appreciated.

That would’ve been the only place you could put it though because once he arrived on Asgard it was straight into battle.

Now grant it don’t viking funerals take a damn long time lol

Right, but in the writing process it should have clicked that three pretty major side characters were killed off rather unceremoniously and the 4th was going to be left out without mention. That should have been written in a way that Thor could encounter that kids and still propel his fury with Hela.

The way the final film was written left no room for that and that is a flaw of the final product. It definitely should gave driven the character once he arrived on asgard. Hela should have flaunted it. Obviously they were the three most decorated people she killed she knew they held high positions. Nobody would gave batted an eye if she taunted Thor with the deaths of important Asgardians even if she didn't know they were his bffs.
