Long films can be great. Like the Godfather. They can also suck, as we know from some examples here. The length of the movie has no real relation to its success, except possibly in situations where the creative decision is affected by an independent preference for length.

Not sure where this fits into the discussion, but some films are so boring and tedious that they seem like they never end when they actually aren't all that long (e.g., Rogue One). Those films would be better served by not being made in the first place.

I thought the Godfather was incredibly boring. JMO.

I'm with kara in that run time and quality do not correlate.

Peter Jackson and Jim Cameron in his older age put out these 3+ hour epics that all have a number of moments where you think as a viewer, this could be removed or at least cut shorter and aren't really serving the overall story.

There are also 2 1/2 hour blockbusters that pace along so well that when the end hits, you're almost caught off guard, like you feel you're only an hour in and can't believe it's done.

It all comes down to how you use the time, it's an art, some movies are masterful examples and other are painful examples.

Yep. Also, short films can feel like a lot. I remember walkin' out of DREDD sayin' "man, that was an awesome two-hour experience" and my friends be like "bro, twas 90 minutes" and I be like "Say WHAAAAAAAT???"

Dredd was GOAT

Dredd > Jack Reacher > Django > Skyfall > Avengers > Hobbit > TDKR > The Amazing Spider-Man > Brometheus > Total Recall

Welp, this thread is officially DREDD'd!

And it's appropriate since our man Dredd is Executioner! :rock
