Latino Review caught up with Samuel L. Jackson at today's press conference for Mother and Child, soliciting a few interesting tidbits about upcoming Marvel projects. Chief among them: Jackson will not be making a cameo in Thor, but will shoot one for Captain America this summer.
While perhaps not the most Earth-shattering news of all time, it is a bit surprising (and apparently was to Sam, too) as he seems a large part of the glue that holds the filmic Marvel universe. That said, he did not appear in The Incredible Hulk and, thanks to some smart Robert Downey Jr. banter, I'm pretty sure he wasn't missed. Maybe his contract is one of those "every other Marvel film" deals.
Since Jackson is slated to appear in nine films total, it's also possible that Marvel is holding him back unless he's absolutely necessary. Since it has been confirmed that Clark Gregg would be playing a part in Thor as Agent Coulson, perhaps the S.H.I.E.L.D. quota is already full.
Strange, though, that Captain America would be the film to feature Nick Fury since everything we've been told so far points to the entire movie taking place in the 1940's. Does this mean that Fury may inexplicably not age (Life Model Decoys!) or that we'll get present day bookends at the start and the end of the film? I'm betting against just a post-credits Iron Man Fury tease as it almost seems a waste of one of the nine.
Also of interest from Latino Review's piece is the fact that Jackson views The Avengers as his own "starring vehicle", telling us to expect a sizeable amount of screentime for a certain one-eyed S.H.I.E.L.D. director come 2012.
