Another little change...

yea, whether its sad or not, with the prices I'm used to these days, 160 for the outfit and accessories is fair to me, the head is not coming out of the box as far as Im concerned. Time for a custom run...

Obviously the eyebrows are problematic but that's not the only problem. The sculpt lacks realism and refinement and looks almost like a cheap 7 inch figure than a high end 1/6 collectable. I think a run of custom heads should be looked at ASAP. There's a lot of good free Angent sculptors out there...

I gotta say, I must agree. The lack of refinement is a good point. The paint on the pair looks flat and cheap, and the sculpting on the face is a bit harsh.

When asked several times when we'd see Ned threezero posted (more than once) that they were waiting on licensors approval. Soooo does that mean this is it? This is final? Plus, they seemed to take a very different approach with Ned than with Tyrion.....

The sculpt isn't great, but for $160 shipped for all that it's a great deal. Everything else looks good so maybe the sculpt will be improved. I'm so used to HT prices lol.

With all the talented digital and traditional sculptors showing fantastic likenesses these days (many on this very forum) I am so surprised to see companies still releasing figures with such poor head sculpts. The bar has been raised over the last coupe of years, and stuff that could have slid by in 2011 isn't going to cut it in 2014/2015. These companies should know collectors aren't going to settle for "okay". Unless the head sculpt is significantly improved or a custom pops up somewhere this will be a pass for me. I ordered Tyrion, but right now Ned is dreadful. They need to start with Sean Bean and build Ned from there.

Yes, this. Saw a post on facebook by a sculptor addressing this very issue. If these companies were smart they would put out a call for submissions and consider spec sculpts to get the best possible likeness. Apparently what ends up happening at some of these companies is the art directors and artist become friends and that seems to cloud their judgment on what looks right and what doesn't. It may also be that Bean requested changes to the sculpt that took it away from being a direct likeness. Some celebrities are notorious for doing that. Shatner is one that comes to mind. Photoshopped "corrections" to sculpt or paint can be deceptive as it's a 2 dimensional adjustment to a 3 dimensional object. It is very likely that if this ends up being the look of the finished product custom heads will be offered to elevate this to the next level.

I think licensors are less concerned with a good likeness than collectors are... I mean look at the crap that get's approved.

In context I can tell this is supposed to be Ned. But if you just had the head I'd have no idea who it was supposed to be... maybe a member of the Allman Brothers? :lol

Tyrion is a good sculpt, but he's going to be easier to capture as he has many stand out features. A figure like Ned while harder to get right still has enough going on due to his age that he should look better. I can't imagine how bad the younger, prettier figures will be.

We are so accustomed to how incredible some sculpts can be. Look at the newest HT Steve Rogers sculpt, Thor, and Cavill Superman. And though I haven't seen any in hand, some of Enterbay's figures, especially Bruce Lee. When we see sub par sculpts like this, they look even worse in comparison to what we're used to.

I think this is a great point. What most of us probably don't realize is that the people at most of these companies ... like HBO, AMC, the movie studios, etc. ... who are tasked with making some of these judgment calls are not likely to be collectors themselves. In fact, most of them likely just work in the Legal department. It isn't that they don't care about accuracy, it's just not necessarily their focus or their background. Their primary job probably isn't to make sure Sean Bean's eyebrows have exactly the right shape. It's to ensure nothing is grossly out of step with the licensing agreements that were signed. It isn't necessarily that they're bad at their jobs, but rather that their jobs aren't quite what we think they should be.

And yes, that is definitely an over-generalization, but I think there's a valid point there.
