I don't know if this pic has already been posted, plus it's from back in May, but if the production pieces look this nice, we may be getting an extended run. :)

I don't know about anyone else, but even with all the latest announcements from Hot Toys and Sideshow, ThreeZero is the company I'm most excited about, with the releases I'm most looking forward to. Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead being the two licenses I'm personally interested in - though their other stuff is also looking great.

It's certainly something different, not superheroes or '80s properties.
As much as i love superheroes, I'm starting to want other options as well. A few official Clint Eastwood figures would be great. Josey Wales, Pale Rider, Dirty Harry and The Man With No Name. Bill the Butcher, because no way am I paying $800 for a custom. An actual 007 line. Planet of the Apes figures, imagine a Koba and Caesar. So many opportunities in a movies line like that. And going the goofy route, I remember Enterbay made a Mr. Bean... if they did Kramer from Seinfeld I'd buy it.

Agreed.

I too would like a William Cutting, but it seems like HT is taking less risks, as far as licenses go.

I think we'll need to look to ThreeZero, PCS, Asmus, Star Ace and smaller shops for more esoteric licenses. SSC and HT are all about the big guns now.

So I asked earlier but nobody really seemed to know, I'll ask again (bump). Does anyone know roughly speaking, how many of a particular figure (say in the GoT price range) they'd need to sell to make it "worth their while". Anyone know how the likeness rights work? What's to stop them from doing any and all characters in the first place since they are all made to order? Couldn't a slightly higher price for limited quantities of peoples favorite character technically still make them money if they didn't supply to retailers (or vastly under produce). Please don't use marvel or iron man to describe this license as they are different, IM is really just a fad that will end whereas thrones is a book and movie series where we get to know our favorites even better with time. (in that there was 6 seconds of midas and heartbreaker screentime vs POV chapters for Ned)

I guess an alternate question to most of the above is can anyone with knowledge explain the HBO likeness rights and if they require each individual actors approval?

Only someone at ThreeZero and/or HBO will be able to authoritatively answer your questions - you should post to their Facebook. I'm sure there are some they won't answer, but you never know, they may provide some insight into others.

With regards to how many characters are able to be produced/licensed, information has already been given about that from someone somewhat " in the know" - they're licensing in stages.

I've been here since page 1, I don't post without reading every page of a thread so I'm very aware of the "character batches" and the names of upcoming characters.

I've seen Darklord and others post Q & A's I was hoping my questions would either get answered by someone who's communicated with these company guys or possibly added to a future Q and A. I've also seen companies make accounts to answer stuff themselves. THAT'S why I asked. I won't ask you to put up with our annoying wishlists that'll never get made but I'm trying to get answers here.
*Pixel tell me you weren't heartbroken when you realized a Grand Admiral Thrawn would never happen. WE MIGHT GET OUR ROOSE BOLTON THOUGH!

All licensing deals are different. Usually a big studio film will negotiate for likeness rights for merchandising when they sign the cast to act in the film. Not sure if that also happens in TV, but it probably does. But there are so many other factors involved, and the details are not considered for public consumption, so I doubt anyone would share them.

Hot Toys has become Disney's high end collectible company. Marvel and now Star wars.
If only they put half as much effort into DC properties apart from Nolan's Batman. A couple more figures from MOS, try to rekindle Watchmen starting with Rorschach this time. More figures from the Arkham games instead of taking years to show a subpar prototype. Admittedly there's not much they could do yet outside of those 3 lines, but damn. Hopefully they make up for it with Dawn of Justice.

As for the "how many do they have to sell to make it worth their while" question, I can't imagine anybody would ever answer that. Even if they were in a position to know the numbers. That's ThreeZero's internal financial data and I can't imagine them ever tipping their hand and showing us their balance sheets. That would be an excellent way to lose somebody their job.

As for the likeness question, I'm pretty sure HBO does routinely ask for (and get) talent approvals for likenesses. That's fairly standard procedure with them, as I understand it. Put it this way, it's always a good idea to keep the actors on your gigantic hit show happy, and HBO does their best to keep them happy. One of the many, many reasons actors desperately want to work for them.
