Re: ThreeZero Toys: AMC's The Walking Dead

Been a fan of zombie flicks since the early 80's. It's almost hard to believe that there was a time the genre was once shunned, but over the years, the popularity has grown. So by the time TWD hit, after seeing how Zombieland was embraced by the mainstream, it was pretty obvious it would be a success. Though I will say I'm surprised AMC is getting away with the amount of gore they're putting into it. But the series being a success wasn't surprising at all. Especially having read the comics since they first came out and knowing Kirkman was involved.

with kirkman and Nicotero involved , its was a given it would be good, but even with a rise in popularity for zombies, it was still far from a given that this series would be embraced this much by the mainstream audience but im freakin glad they did, it gives us horror fans some hope for more great horror content to find a home on tv.

In the 18-49 demo, yes. But it didn't beat all the network shows in overall viewers.

It's a moot point. It's a great show with a big audience and we're finally getting officially licensed figures. Hooray!

That's the core demographic advertisers and TV execs worship so I'd say it's a pretty big deal. Besides a movie can be a billion dollar franchise because you can count the number of tickets and multiply by the ticket cost and see what the franchise is worth. It is harder to do that with TV.

I find every thing Walking Dead sells at the moment its in league with Star Wars in my shop for being sellable. In fact its selling more over all than star Wars merchandise.

honestly not surprised about the star wars stuff under selling... too much of a good thing, just seems to be too much.. im over doing it with these numbers, but it feels like theres at least 10 star wars toy on shelf per 1 unit of anything else... the shelves are over saturated with star wars stuff...

I love Star Wars, but this seems like very accurate comparison.

Yeah, and they still push the envelope every season. There are times my wife and I stop and look at each other over certain scene knowing we're both thinking "How the hell do they get away with it."

It's awesome though. I'm really happy the show is as good as it is. I'm also happy that they deviate from the comics.

I haven't read the books but after watching a few episodes, I too wondered how the get away with so much gore/blood. I wonder if it has to do with the goriest kills mostly being walkers, not humans thus allowing AMC to show more?

Re: ThreeZero Toys: AMC's The Walking Dead

Unlike Language and Nudity, Violence/Gore has never had a clear cut ratings barrier. So until that happens, they'll continue to push it as far as they can. I do believe it happening to zombies does help them get away with it though. I'm all for it though. The show would lose its edge if the violence wasn't there.

Its hard to depict a horrible zombie apocalypse (or any zombie show for that matter) without some decent blood. That was a huge hit to WWZ for me. And after seeing what Walking Dead can get away with on basic cable (not HBO/Showtime premium cable) a PG-13 movie ought to be able to get away with a similar level of blood, gore, and violence.

I think Walking Dead is on the perfect station. Had it been on a premium station like HBO/Showtime, they would have likely felt the need to constantly drop F-bombs and random nudity and sex. I always feel like when they can do things like that, they use them as a crutch and limit themselves. The characters sound like a bunch of idiots that know 10 words and have never heard of clothes before. When shows can't say them or show that, I feel like they are smarter because they have to come up with other ways to express those things. :dunno

Re: ThreeZero Toys: AMC's The Walking Dead

Very good points man, I do think AMC has shows that are better and more smartly written than HBO..GoT and such

Whoa. Relax there sparky. As good as TWD is, it's no breaking bad or madmen. GoT has gotten better over three seasons. Can't say the same about TWD. I'm really hoping season four lives up to the beginning of season 3 because the end of S3 sucked ballsacks

I'm going to have to disagree with you there. I don't know what people are on when they watch Mad Men, but clearly I didn't take any before I tried watching it. I just don't 'get' that show. :cuckoo:

And while Breaking Bad is good, its had its fair share of bad and filler episodes. Neither show has my undivided attention like Walking Dead does.

GoT would certainly had been better OFF of HBO IMO for the reasons I stated in my earlier post. Just because they can get away with something, they do it and do it too much :slap

Re: ThreeZero Toys: AMC's The Walking Dead

TWD is definitely a more intense show than the others, and at the end of almost every episode I cant wait to see what's coming next. Mad Men does take some time to get going..more of a slow burn.

Re: ThreeZero Toys: AMC's The Walking Dead

I know this is off topic but I would love some 1/6 figures of The Office

Re: ThreeZero Toys: AMC's The Walking Dead
