Tips to keeping your outdoor pets cool this summer

I honestly can't have a conversation with someone so staunch about animal "abuse". You're just too far out there in that respect to be able to comprehend a different take on the matter. To pretty much accuse me of abuse is offensive. My cat is loved by me and I take excellent care of him. I may care for him differently from the way you care for yours, but he is by no means cared for improperly, abused, or left to his own devices. End of story. Peace.

Not true in my opinion. If you buy a domesticated animal and want to leave it outside all day that sir is abuse in my opinion. You should have ZERO right to buy said animal.

well l think you are right . if you buy an animal that has been inside its whole life it is mean to then make him live outside at his new home . but if you buy a dog that was just borne and raise him outside its okay as long as everything he has is there and a nice dog house and such . but l think only big dogs should be the ones that stay outside if you choose to keep them there . l do not think the small little dogs should be outside 24/7.

I should have clarified. There are plenty of dogs that live on farms, hunt, and are outside. I wasn't referring to that. I was talking about the people that just flat out don't want to deal with their dog and just throw them on a leash outside. For example, I was at Kitfisto's house in VA a couple weeks ago. I was out on his balcony and I hear the neighbors patio door open. I naturally looked over because I'm a nosey bastard and saw their dog come walking out on the balcony. He immediately stopped and pissed right on their balcony. The owners were too lazy to actually walk him outside. They just opened up the door and left him on their balcony. I asked Jason about it and he said oh yeah they just lock him out there whenever they don't want to deal with him. I hope that makes sense. I certainly don't mean to offend anyone but my position on animals and how they should be treated is pretty damn firm.

I never said wanting to keep your house clean is lazy. Not wanting to clean up after your pets is lazy, that's just part of the responsibility of owning a pet. Spending an extra 5-10 minutes to sweep/vacuum isn't unreasonable.

I have always had pets at home (mostly dogs) and they always made some kind of sign (scratching, barking...) when they wanted to go out. I guess the way you educate your pet could also be related to the problem?

Same here. My dog comes and nudges me when she needs to go out. She's also well trained enough to hold it throughout the day without using the floor as a toilet. However, she's usually waiting for me at the door with her leash in her mouth when I get home.

Dude this happened to me 2 years ago in Tallahassee. The girl next door had a little beagle that she would leave on her front porch everyday when she'd go to work/school. I felt so bad for the dog that I would bring over a fresh bowl of water and a couple treats for him. I don't ever recall seeing her take the dog for a walk either, and the dog frequently used the porch as a pee station. (Can't blame the dog for that since he couldn't really go anywhere)

One would think. Hell people have kids and can't take care of them so imagine what some of these neglected animals go through.

Two doors down from me the neighbors at the time had a white german shepard that was left out 24/7 all year long. It had a house barely big enough for it to get in. They fed it cheap crap food and one time it came over to our house and I checked her out and her ears were all frost bit from the winter. They were black on the tips. It totally pissed me off but there was nothing anyone could do. As long as they have food and water, they can't be taken away. The whole neighboorhood was feeding the dog leftovers and scraps because even though she was hungry, she wouldn't eat the food they gave her. The food was bright red, hard balls. She was a good dog too. All the sudden she was gone and none of us knew what happened to her. Karma though, the owner had drug related problems and fell and died at the age of 42.

Hopefully someone had enough guts to take the dog and find it a good home.

i also take him swimming, he has his own life vest

also keep lemon juice handy for when your dogs get to "foaming" from breathing so much as this will keep their throat clear and will let them breathe easily

I was at someone's house in TN once and their little pug dog went to the corner of the room and squatted and peed right on the carpet. My jaw dropped. The owners did nothing. The dog jumped on the couch with one of them and the pee stayed there. The house smelled so badly I just couldn't stand to be there.
