Sigh. Yea I’m so conflicted. On one hand this looks great and venom looks phenomenal. But wtf is venom without Spider-Man? I mean I always wanted to see a proper venom vs spidey fight on the big screen. And now don’t makes this movie and it seems like Brock gets the suit and that’s it. No connection to spidey. That’s what made venom unique. He knew everything about Spider-Man and was his venom. But whatever. This is going to be interesting
Yeah the trailer is lacking a sense of it being set in an already growing universe. I wonder if they will even touch on Peter in this movie.... or if it will feel like it's own separate thing entirely.
The suit is gonna tell him to choose its form (like Gozer) and he resists until he sees a poster of Spider-Man at a bus stop right before changing in front of that guy at the end of the trailer.
I always touch my Peter.
But yes, Parker will have some little nod in there and I'm sure Carnage will be hinted at as well. I don't mind the anti Hero angle they're going with here... but I hate that they've already botched how he even became Venom.
LOL!
I just don't understand how they are going to incorporate this tone into the Disney MCU, it seems too much like an X-Men story or something. If they pull it off it will be great, but chances are they wont. Spider-man Homecoming and this feel like completely different universes to me.
Yeah especially since the marketing so far hasn't alluded to the fact that they are set in the same universe. I think they've dropped the ball already and don't know it. If they wanted an rated R spidey-vesre they should had said no thanks to Disney and worked on their own. Now this is just a big mix bag of "what if's?"
It's just par for the course with Fox's bad decision making. Most movie goers don't even know who the hell Venom is. Most are kids and weren't even around for Spooder Mahn 3.
It's not being billed as a Disney film, so it's not making that kinda money.
People used to know who Venom is but I don't know if he is still a popular character. He was never Superman/Batman level but he was pretty big even before That 70s Venom.
I'm completely out of touch with comics at this point. I love CBMs because I can still enjoy the characters without following a book and it's tie-ins, etc.

You would think they would play it safe and at least name drop Spider-Man in the trailer or get a glimpse of something related to let folks know. I just don't see this being successful without the general audience not being in on it. If I had no idea who or what Venom was, this trailer would just look like an average superhero movie.
