Does anyone else wish they only had one interest or focus with collecting...anything?

****, I am into statues, action figures, prints, original art, sketch cards, LEGOs...list goes on.

On top of that I am into way too many different brands.

I wish I could stay focused on just one brand or just one type of collectible.

I only collect action figures...but in multiple scales, multiple companies, mulitiple licenses.

I wish I could cut back to just Terminator but Predators and Robocops, Batmans and Supermans etc just keep drawing me in.

Hear, hear. I do 1/6 Hot Toys and the SSC Joes, 1/4 scale PFs, Minimates, Kubricks, and plan on getting a few 1/4 scale articulated figures. Multiple licenses with most of those. I'm actually actively trying to work out a plan for cutting down on what I collect and what I keep in my collection, because I've got too much **** and spend too much money. But it's hard to do. Once I get into something, I'm not keen to get out of it unless/until I get bored, and I'm not really bored with any of this stuff yet.

as long as your responsible and not overspending money on this stuff that puts you in debt or going hungry buy what you like............:lecture

Oh yea most definitely. It is not a matter of money in my case but just a matter of me wishing I could just concentrate on one medium or one brand. I jump around way too much and gets hard to enjoy stuff sometimes.

Yea I feel yea. Share your plan, maybe I can steal it.

A focused collection is much more impressive than having a little bit of everything. At least that's what I convinced myself of when I got rid of all of my toys and focused more on statues and 1/6th.

"collection intervention" candidate perhaps?...........:panic:

:wink1:

in some cases yes.............but i've seen plenty of collections that are all over the place but look cool because of how it's displayed & what is used to display it.
personally i like a little of everything but i can appreciate focused stuff too. that boils down to personal tastes though.

Yeah way too many interests.
Other than collecting figures and statues, there's cars, guns, home theater gear, baseball, football, and Formula 1. Why couldn't it be something more affordable like gardening or stamp collecting? :panic:

Don't Dream it
Be it! :wink1:

But there's more to it than the money issue. There's also the concern over just having too much stuff, where you need the "intervention." Or not even there, just to the point where you are taking up more storage space than you would like, or where aesthetically the collection isn't as nice as it could be because it is not focused enough like Shropt says. I think there is something cool about a collection like Slade's (the guy that just has action figures all over the place), but I wouldn't want that personally.

Haha I am not to that point yet...at least I hope I am not. Nothing looks cluttered yet but I do have stuff I cannot easily display...yet.

For example, I used to collect sketch cards...then I got bored so I stopped but then today I looked at scoundrel forums and dammit the bug got me again and sucked me in.

Maybe my issues are way deeper than I think. :D

well being responsible could cover not buying so much stuff that you have no where to put it but storage. though rotating the collection out every so often could help with that. but as we've mentioned it really boils down to the individual. if someone is buying just to buy then that may be a whole other issue of compulsive buying. i broke away from that years ago myself thank goodness.

possibly............but i don't think you are the only one that has gone or goes thru this right now. i guess a good way to assess it would be to whether the abundance of stuff that you have issues with outweighs the regret of not purchasing the stuff in the first place. make sense?

I have been cutting back for money reasons but I suppose as a side-effect my collection is being reduced to only the most iconic/memorable from a particular film - apart from Terminator where I still have multiples and variations. And outside of Terminator I'm killing off my completism, I no longer require to have every iteration of the Predator for example - only the 'hero' predators and also only the best looking ones at that, outdated figures are getting sold off.

the opposite started to happen to me,
I only focused on buying predator toys and figures, posters, Predator masks, etc

it was too much predator, later I would look at my collection and didn't like it only being about one thing, it felt weird, like a Predator shrine,
I got some alien figures , and it looked different, better, but then I started collecting all Jason, and again, it started to feel like I was making a Jason Shrine again,
I don't know I just didn't like only having everything of the same, doesn't look great for me,
then I got some Batman, got some other horror figures, got Watchmen and 300, some lord of the rings, Hellboy,
now that there is more variety I like looking at my collection more, I did not like having everything of just one character or movie,
the variety made it seem nicer,

I do like this approach and that is what I have going on right now, except I double dip sometimes which I don't like. It would be nice to keep it to one piece a character as well.

the problem is over buying, yeah, I got so much predator after a while I even got tired of it, I looked at it and I was like, this needs something else,

sometimes I see people's Batman collections, and while they are awesome, it just feels like it is too much, While I love seeing collections, I couldn't have only Batman stuff, just feels odd for me,

a one piece per character is pretty good, If I got rid of some of my stuff I would do that
