i can't remember the first cd i ever bought, maybe dark side of the moon. the first cassette i ever bought was crowded house.

It was a big deal for me. Right when CDs were starting to take over from tapes. That and a crappy Aerosmith CD were the first I bought. My sister got a New Kids on the Block CD :lol

1. The Beatles: In My Life or Here Comes the Sun

2. Johnny Cash: Folsom Prison Blues

3. Frank Sinatra: My Way

4. Green Day: Jesus Of Suburbia

5. Arcade Fire: Ocean of Noise

(Rounding out my top 10 would be Bob Dylan, Nirvana, Damien Rice, Greg Brown, and Elliot Smith)

The first album I ever bought was Dark Side of the Moon. I bought it at a Kmart when I was 14 years old.

The first CD I ever bought was The Joshua Tree.

its funny, music for me was always big, but before I graduated high school I never had much money to spend on music. so my album and tape collection maybe had like 10 albums...lol. I'm pretty sure I didn't own a CD until after high school 1995! I held out for the longest time. Then once I was in college my collection really grew fast. Now for the most part I own as much as I ever really want. I only buy a new album maybe 5 a year. i listen to my top 100 or so cds 90% of the time and the other 300 or so only 10%.

I used to manage a music store back in the 80s, so I got in on CDs pretty early. I have about 3,500 in my collection, but I don't buy nearly as many as I used to.

Before that I would buy albums all the time when I was a teenager. My parents had a pretty nice collection that really got me into music.

do you find yourself listening to that much variety or do you stick with the favs? even within an artists catalog, i stick with my favorites. like KAte Bush, I own like 5 of her alums but I probably listen to Hounds of Love twice as much as all her other albums combined. Rush I own several albums, but will listen to Signals or Permanent Waves as much as all the others combined...etc. I don't know what I'd do with that many CDs.

I listen to everything. I like hearing stuff like the new ones from Broken Social Scene, MGMT, The New Pornographers and a few others, but I'm always listening to the classic stuff too. Some more than others. I listen to The Beatles all the time and I love driving to Led Zeppelin. Nothing beats driving fast and cranking Zeppelin. :lol

I had lots of albums as a kid, but never bought any (I don't think). One of the earliest I remember having was the Close Encounters of the Third Kind soundtrack :lol

Also, the Monster Mash!
