I think it’s good because a) it’s the only one out there and b) they put some effort into coming up with a way to do the arms. But it has lots of issues that HT should fix. Or not haha.
A good Molina sculpt and better costuming (which HT can almost do in their sleep) would be a great start.
A great Willem Dafoe sculpt would almost be more desirable, the customs off of that could be endless!

No there is no support for spidey. Although he is resting on docs head a little.

I dont see why people hate this figure so much. Is it flawed... yes kinda, but what figure isnt? Overall, its great and has a presence. If HT does make one then great, enjoy that figure in 2yrs time. For now, there is very little wrong with this one

All true. It’s staggering, as long as you are willing to spend the time, all the different things you can do with the arms.

Would love to try and do something like this but to work it would require some hidden support:

I wanted to have this setup but space is limited in a detolf, hence why i went with the other way i posted above

If HT actually does make Doc, my guess is they'll copy the TE arm design with the individual, ball-joint connected links but add three cables threaded through them at the points of their triangular shape to maintain their alignment and provide the smooth look seen above. That's the main thing the TE version is lacking (aside from a great Molina head sculpt).

I think they'll definitely just reuse the ones we saw on the integrated suit's DX base, if I had to guess those arms were made for the figure itself and they just decided to reuse the mold for the base as well to make the most out of it.

Yes, Matticus pointed that out previously but I keep forgetting! :slap I think design-wise those are similar to what I described, but the links look slightly different/more accurate vs. TE's and are probably made to have smaller gaps.

The Homecoming suit has magnets in the body to hold the web wings in, I'm assuming that's how all the suits with wings are. They're actually strong enough to hold up Spidey a good bit, like even against the Detolf metal frame. If you set it up somehow, maybe with some other strong magnets it will hold the body up in a pose like that.

Awesome idea! Thanks!

So I received mine yesterday. The figure itself looks great, but I had multiple issues right out if the box. This was not well engineered at all. The tentacles are loose and are very hard to get to stay up. One set of pinchers fell off right out of the box, so I had to glue those back on. One individual pincher broke off at the articulation point. Only way to glue that back on was in a fixed point.

Then the entire tentacle contraption around his stomach and back just fell apart. I ended up having to glue that back together on the sides. The overall look and tailoring is great. I actually like the head sculpt more in person than the pictures. It looks more like a cartoon version of Alfred Molina.

If you can wait for the Hot Toys version, I would recommend canceling this. Again, I enjoy the look but I can not recommend it with all of its problems. It feels like they rushed this out.

That was my worry with the Fiend. Ordered from the second run. It turned out well. Doc was from the first run and no issues either.

Thank you for sharing your experience

^ Interesting. I had zero issues with my first run Ock. They must’ve dipped in quality on the second run.

Unfortunately I can't get his tentacles to do that. After messing with them I can get them to go straight up and curve forward, but they can't go off to the side. I'm going to keep it as it looks great, just won't be able to really pose it. Plus I don't want to wait for the HT version 🤣. I may get that now when it's released and have both versions.

I got the second run of The Fiend as well and didn't have any issues with that.

Always get 1st batch... except with Hot Toys.
I got the second batch on the Ebony Maw and Green Goblin as well and no issues with those. Not sure why they dropped the ball on quality control with Doc Ock. He looks great but I shouldn't have had to rebuild him.

Yeah, my Ock came in the same condition. The glue along those tiny edges of the stomach harness was not strong enough to deal with the weight of the tentacles. I'm customizing him anyway, so I don't mind working with it (I'm going to use small screws to fasten the back portion of the harness to his lower back), but it's definitely not a perfect-out-of-the-box figure.

To counteract the droopy tentacles, I've drilled 1mm holes and run a length of black armature wire through each segment. It gives the tentacles a bit more strength/grip to hold different positions, while remaining as flexible (and helping to keep each segment aligned, which is a nice bonus).

I've also painted a section of the tentacles gold; it looks like Raimi's Ock had a gold plate on the segments, and I think it adds a nice bit of contrast/visual interest.

If you have any problem with the tentacles, I think you can just find the link that's too loose, remove that one vertebra (segment) and reattach. If it's only 1 or 2, you'll barely notice any removed pieces.
