It seemed like all Optimus Prime really wanted to say in this movie was "I Kill You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!".............

After the 2007 movie I lost interest after they turned Prime into a murdering psycho.

They've made a ****ing mockery of the character and all that he's supposed to stand for. Peter Cullen must really need the dough.

I saw it today, it was not bad, I'm glad all the toilet humor is gone. I can bear to watch this again, unlike the last 2 which I never ever want to see again. I agreed, Bay's Prime is just a psychopath now. I know Prime is upset about what happened to the Autobots, but I don't like how he just threatens to kill anybody who pisses him off in this movie, literally, it was his last line in the movie, "I'm going to find them and kill them!"

I will say it feels like Bay made the same movie 3 times over. All the action scenes has been done before in the last films, I was not wowed at all. The final battle felt like watching the final showdown in Chicago in DOTM, besides the showdown with Lockdown, the rest of the robot fight sequences were meh.

Bay's action scenes is just boring and repetitive now. Most of the time it's the humans running from the robot legs in the background, or just trying to avoid getting crushed by the bots fighting in the background. It was pretty much the same all 3 films, the human characters running and screaming, flying cars and what not thrown all over the place, slow mo running from explosions that looks like some firework show, and short shots of the bots actually fighting.

Besides Lockdown, I barely felt any sense of danger in this film, Galvatron and his army were pathetically weak. The humans, Hound and Bumblebee pretty much took out the "superior" created human formers with ease, who needed Prime and the big bad Dinobots, seriously. I was expecting the human formers to break into thousands of pieces when they got shot and then reformed again, that would have been interesting, instead, they were just as lame as the Decepticon protoforms of the last 3 films.

:lol at all you guys contributing to its $100 million weekend. "Transformers 5 directed by Michael Bay" thanks you.

As you have all noted- the films have one thing in common beyond what Mr. Bay decides how to handle them- they are gigantic world-wide money making machines.
Transformers 5 is a lock to be made.

I haven't read the thread, but this film provoked some very strong reactions in me and I wanted to share.

Firstly 2 hours and 45 mins is way too long for a movie based on a toy. This may seem hypocritical of me - as I would love a 2:45 superhero movie, or Star Trek/Wars or LotR. But it felt like this film had 2 finales and it was difficult to tell them apart, aside from the Dinobots.

Michael Bay seems to have the mindset and sensitivity of a 13 year old boy from the 80s, especially when it comes to women. Despite the overly long run time he fails to explore the Sophia Myles character at all. One gets the feeling that she's there to become a love interest for Mark, but they never develop that. She may be a strong, smart woman, but that is completely undermined by the fact that she is the ex-girlfriend of the completely self-obsessed Jobs-like Stanley Tucci. He seems to only see women as sexual objects -evidenced by his reaction to the bad-ass Chinese woman.

Nicola Peltz's character may be willful and smart, but she's basically there to just to be saved. And she's cut from the same mold as previous female leads in Transformers movies - spray tanned supermodel. Why can't a 17 year old actually look like a 17 year old?

Another thing that bothered me - Hound, one of our "good" guys when in the space zoo basically blows away one of the alien specimens just because it's ugly. Bay obviously intends for us to laugh at this and the unintelligible one-liner Goodman delivers. I was more appalled than amused.

Bothersome bit number 3 - pandering to the Chinese government. "Hong Kong is under attack, on no, we are no longer independent and must appeal to the Central government for protection". In case you missed it, it's repeated later when the Chinese minister says, "we will protect Hong Kong." Although there is never any follow up in the film aside from a military jet doing a flyby and apparently not engaging the attackers.

I think I've been spoiled with sci-fi/fantasy films recently - geeks like del Toro, Jackson, Snyder have made films that aren't trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Even non comic fans like Singer and Nolan try to take the subject matter and elevate it. But Bay seems to be old-school - he has nothing but contempt for his audience and makes an action movie like the worst of them from the 80s - all sound and fury, but signifying nothing.

The international box office for this movie is just insane.

Domestically, as per Box Office Mojo, it was awarded an "A-" CinemaScore, which is in contrast to its abysmal 17 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Yet here is How to Train Your Dragon which was also awarded an "A" PLUS a high RT critics score, yet was a financial failure.

Box Office is like Hot Toys release strategy, they both make no ****ing sense.

saw it , loved it and i could care less what the mindless mass of bashers , haters or even lovers have to say about it, i went to watch a film in a series of films that i enjoy , all of them to different degrees and know what , ill keep watching and enjoying them because i love transformers and love these films, ok so its not the damn cartoon/G1 but this is 2014 and they make them for kids to sell toys so we got just that ,and i enjoyed it because honestly i dont need to defend why but i did because i love action films and i enjoy robots and this has both. I honestly dont get why everyone who hates this film NEEDS to have their opinion become the standard, you hate it then fine move on to another series and wait for the eventual reboot, dont bash something just because you dint enjoy it, no one forced you to go watch it, you did, plus you had 3 previous films to get a general idea, so if you went back for this one expecting differently then you brought it on yourself, but hey to each our own and i hope the shall be more respect for those who enjoy these films...

You need to change your name to Box Office Jye :lol

what I don't get is why this movie gets so much money but something cool like John Carter gets the shaft.
Some vague name recognition, mixed with an appreciation for the surface-level stuff--i.e., hot chicks, giant robots, explosions, dramatic slo-mo, racist humor, etc. It's a fine art getting that right mix, but Bay seems to have mastered it. Of course, a movie's quality may have little to nothing to do with its box office success. It's about finding an audience, marketing the movie to that audience, and ultimately, providing a product that that audience wants to eat up. The audience for Transformers is not critics. Or discerning film fans of any kind. It's the "silent majority" for the new age.

I'm a big Transformers fan, I don't like the movies, but I'm glad people are supporting it. I feel Bay has help revitalized the Transformer franchise with the movies and got people interested in the toys and the cartoons again. I don't think there would have been a successful live action Transformers movie if Bay didn't do it, but now that he has paved the path, I hope someone else takes over for TF5 and finally do it right.

So you do care what the mindless bashers say then? Its ' Couldn't care less ' because to say you ' care less ' means you do care to a degree. These films are junk and I think people are just annoyed because they have the potential to be great, if handled by the correct team of film makers, yet his 12 year old misogynistic, racist, talentless ***** trumpet keeps making them.

I have not seen it but as some stated earlier the potential for greatness is there, but just not brought about. dark lord Daves review was very good and yes Bay is a big kid that's stuck. It's ok only up to a point because of that potential factor. Writing, Writing, Writing! Unfortunately many folks especially the young love the fights and action. No substance is needed. I'm still thinking about seeing the film but with bay have to treat it as 100% mindless entertainment. Not what Reel Steel had. Remember folks by now you should know what a M Bay film is all about. He is the peoples champion for those folks who just want to escape all reality of the real world and just want mindless action, more than ever before. There are a lot of those types out in the world now. Bottom line it's amazing what makes money as well and who buys certain stuff in the world. Commerciallism at its finest. The Internet/cell phone get it now generation.
